AVNI'S POV:

NEXT DAY

Today, I woke up early because Dadi wanted me to visit the Ganpati Mandir after all, it’s a big day for Amar and me. I quickly got ready and went to the temple with Shekhar Bhai since Rahul Bhai was busy picking up Anya’s dress from a boutique. Honestly, I didn’t mind because if Rahul Bhai had come, he would’ve spent the entire time taunting me. Going with Shekhar Bhai was definitely the better option.

As soon as we reached the temple, I bought a pooja thaal (a plate with worship items), covered my head with my dupatta (scarf), and stepped inside. I handed the thaal to the pandit ji and requested him to perform the pooja.

After some time, I completed the rounds of the mandir and approached pandit ji to receive the prasad. He placed his palm gently on my head, offering his blessings.

"Hamesha khush raho, beta. Bhagwan tumhe duniya ki har khushi de."

(Always stay happy, child. May God bless you with all the happiness in the world.)

"Dhanyawad, pandit ji," I replied politely.

(Thank you, pandit ji.)

"Tumhe bhagwan woh dega jo tumne kabhi socha bhi nahi hoga". He added before leaving.

(God will bless you with things you’ve never even imagined.)

I gave a small nod, took the prasad, and we left for home.

When we arrived, I saw my engagement dress lying carelessly on the floor. No one had bothered to place it properly in my room or even on a table. Thank God it was packed securely in a dress cover, or it would’ve been ruined. I didn’t know how I would’ve faced Amar or his family if that had happened. I quickly picked it up, placed it on a chair, and went to the house mandir to offer the prasad. Afterward, I distributed it to everyone.

Of course, this earned me plenty of taunts for being “late” but I stayed quiet. My exams are starting in three days, and the last thing I need is unnecessary drama. I want to focus on my studies to build my own identity.

I returned to my room, not feeling hungry. Besides, Taiji had strictly instructed that I couldn’t eat until Amar fed me, as per our family ritual. I didn’t argue. I studied until 4 PM, then took a quick cold shower and started getting ready.

Just as I was doing that, a knock interrupted me. I opened the door to find two makeup artists standing there.

"Hello, ma’am. I’m Chitra, and this is Kashish. We’re here to get you ready for your engagement". Chitra said with a warm smile. I nodded in acknowledgment.

Before I could invite them in, Taiji appeared.
"Avni, you don’t need two artists. Let Chitra help Anya. Her makeup artist couldn’t make it". Taiji said sharply.

"But ma’am," Chitra protested, "Kashish is still learning. I can’t leave her to manage Avni ma’am alone."

"Avni will manage, Chitra beta. You go and help Anya." Taiji insisted, her tone leaving no room for argument.
