AVNI'S POV:

"Dekha? Maine kaha tha na ki chali jao, nahi toh tumhara haal bura hoga. Lekin tumne meri nahi suni. Ab bhugto," a voice sneered from behind me.

(See? I told you to leave, or else you'd end up in trouble. But you didn't listen. Now, suffer.)

I turned around, my brows furrowed in confusion, only to find Anya standing there with a smug smirk.

I don't know what she is talking about?

I shook my head, not wanting to have any discussion with her, so I started to walk away. But her next sentence makes me stop on my track .

"You must marry him and vacate my home since Papa insists you marry Amar," she told me, her voice dripping with something that gave me a pause for a moment.

I did not bother answering and just walked off.

As I walked into the hall, I saw that all the people were present. I walked towards Mom and positioned myself next to her. She patted me softly on the back, silently supporting me. I avoided looking up, not wanting anyone to notice my reddened, puffy eyes.

"We don't have any issues with this union, Rajendra ji," Dadi stated, talking to Dada ji Arjun's grandfather.

"Is Avni ready for this relationship?" Myra aunty questioned, her tone touched by concern.

I was quiet, not willing to raise my eyes.

"Myra beta, she herself consented to this union," Dadi replied firmly.

I tightened my fists. Did I? Or was my silence construed as agreement?

"Anni didi is getting married to Amar bhai-sa?" Aarav's voice echoed in the hall as he entered.

"Yes, Aarav! Your Anni is marrying Amar ji," Anya trilled even sweeter, her voice making me ill.

I didn't say anything. What would I even say? My silence wasn't because I wished for it, but because I knew-if I protested, my family would resent me. And for the first time in years, I had seen a small smile on Papa's face due to me. Could I take that away from him?

I was not brave enough to glance at Aaru. I could sense she would be angry at having been left out, but how was I to do this? When I found out only about it!

"So, let's settle on the date of the engagement!" Buaji declared.

My head jerked up. Why were they rushing into it?

But once more, I knew better than to say anything.

Within moments, Pandit ji arrived and, after looking at the calendar, declared, "The engagement may be arranged precisely ten days from today.".

Then everybody decided to organize the engagement in Mumbai.

I gulped. Ten days. That was all I had.
