AVNI'S POV:

FIVE DAYS LATER

Five days have passed quickly thankfully, because I can’t take this torture anymore. My family hasn’t left a single chance to taunt me or raise their hands against me. Mom stays silent, never interfering. But the only good thing in these five days has been my late-night calls with Arjun ji. We talk about everything, sometimes even business. He is busy preparing for his new project, his days becoming more packed than before.

I haven’t told him anything about what’s happening here.

Thinking about everything, I get ready in his favorite color saree—the one I purchased yesterday when I went to collect my mark sheet from college.

FLASHBACK

I stepped out of my room, dressed in a simple Anarkali suit. Heading to the kitchen, I helped Mummy prepare breakfast. After serving everyone, I grabbed my bag and made my way to the door.

"Where are you going?" Bhai asked, his voice firm.

"College. I have to collect my mark sheet." I replied politely.

"No need. Go back to your room." He ordered sternly.

"I will go and bring my mark sheet." I stated, looking him in the eye for the first time, standing up for myself.

"You bitch, you found your voice, huh?" Taiji spat venomously.

"I'm just telling you the reason. I have to collect it today because tomorrow, I am leaving for Udaipur." I reasoned, lowering my gaze.

"Taiji, let her go. I don't want to see her face. It reminds me of what she stole from me." Anya sneered.

"LEAVE!" Papa's booming voice sent a shiver down my spine.

Without wasting another second, I quickly left and took public transport to my college. Upon reaching, I noticed students whispering about me, some giving me side glances. Ignoring them, I walked straight to the administration office where I needed to collect my mark sheet. A long queue stretched ahead of me. I was waiting when suddenly, a professor approached.

"Avni ma’am, please come with me." He said.

I was confused. He wasn’t one of my professors, but greeted him, not wanting to create an awkward scene.

"Mam, why are you standing in line? The principal is waiting for you in his cabin." He said, leading the way.

Everyone turned to look at me, but I ignored them and followed him. We entered the principal’s office, and I was greeted with a warm smile.

"Congratulations, Mrs. Avni Arjun Singh." Principal Sir said politely.

"Thank you so much, Sir. But please, don’t call me like that. I’m just a student like everyone else." I replied, my voice soft but firm.

He chuckled. "Alright, beta. As you say. By the way, congratulations on your results."

I smiled at him as he handed me my mark sheet. After completing the formalities, I left the office.
