Chapter 45: Save Me

Nine's eyes slowly open, his cranium in agony from how hard he collided with the wall, he looks around and sees the penthouse is in ruins. He looks around and when he tries to stand his shoulder starts hurting, hurting bad.

As his hearing adjusts, he hears the sounds of struggle, his vision is still blurry and wavy so he's having trouble making out things.

"Tails... Where are you..."

Everything hurts, aches, it's agony but Nine's worried about Tails, about Mangey, the family he's grown to love so much. To keep his mind off the pain in his shouler from, Tails. He whimpers when he realises somethings happened to him, he starts to tug on his heart and it tugs hard.

When he gets around a large piece of the crumbling wall he sees Tails laying there in front of a pair of shoes, shaking and gasping, Nine immediately notices his broken arm and that's what finally sends him over the edge, he can feel his blood pressure rising... Then he sees who was responsible for hurting him, giving him so much pain, breaking his heart...

Shadow...

When Nine sees Shadow standing over Tails, he bawls his fists.

"You survived... Unfortunate" Shadow goes, bringing his foot down on Tails who shouts in pain.

"...I'm going to feed you your own heart" Nine says, his mechanical tails opening and pointing straight at him.

"Do you really think you can take me down?" Shadow growls.

"Who said I was going to take you down... I'm going to fucking kill you, not take you down... ASSHOLE!"

Shadow scoffs and kicks Tails right at Nine like a football, he catches him and looks down at his injured friend while setting him down on the rubble covered floor.

"Are you okay?" Nine whimpers.

"I've... Felt worse" Tails says weakly.

Nine squeezes him tightly, avoiding his broken arm. Tails while being squeezed can feel how worried Nine was about him, Tails with his intact arm, wraps it around Nine.

"You okay?"

"Well, my arm is broken and I think he shattered my rib cage so... No... Not really" Tails tells him, he puts his hand on Nine's chest, "We need to get out of here, you can't take him Nine. You don't know how he fights"

Nine was inclined to agree with him, but then he remembers when Tails helped him out after Jet, all the friendly and sweet moments with him, all the moments that made him smile, he starts growling.

"Nine?" Tails says, worried about the look on his face.

"You've done quite a bit for me... Now I'm going to do something for you..." Nine says, stroking Tails' face.

"Please... Don't..."

Nine kisses him, "I can't let this slide Tails... I just can't. I won't let him get away with this, I refuse"

Nine stands up, laying Tails down on the floor gently, holding a piece of elastiribbon from Tails' belt. Tails using his other arm reaches up as Nine walks away from him

"Nine... Please... You'll be dead in minutes"

Nine stops walking and turns back to Tails, "If I die, I choose to die fighting for you, for Sonic, for Mangey. I'm finally sure of who I love now... I love you all"

Then he turns back to Shadow who's glowing red aura illuminates the ruined penthouse. His hearts beating hard, he knows he's scared, but he's the only one who can do it.

"Nine!... Please!" Tails shouts, starting to cry.

Tails watches from the ground as Nine stops walking and stands in front of Shadow ready to take him on. Tails starts looking around for anything he can use to turn the tides of a battle that could potentially result in tragedy. Then he finally sees it, the case with the chaos emeralds, he growls and starts to pull himself toward it.
