Chapter 56: Dream Vacation Villa
Yu Yangxu stared at Li Shu like a wild beast whose territory had been invaded, his gaze filled with irritation, impatience, and a rising urge to kill. Yet, for some unknown reason, he couldn't make a more aggressive move.
After a moment of staring, Yu Yangxu turned his gaze away, grabbed Mu Sheng, and left: "It's getting late. We still need time to get down, and if we rest on the way, we'll miss dinner."
Mu Sheng stumbled slightly as he followed, instinctively glancing back at Li Shu.
Li Shu didn't react to Yu Yangxu's rude attitude or behavior. He stood tall, silently watching the two of them leave, his demeanor calm.
When his gaze met Mu Sheng's, Li Shu gave a slight nod and mouthed, "See you again."
It was as if he was certain that Mu Sheng would return here.
Mu Sheng lowered his eyes, not responding to Li Shu, and hurried along as Yu Yangxu pulled him away.
Even Mu Sheng's slender, fragile back looked graceful, reminding one of a kite soaring high in the sky—delicate yet able to fly far.
If you weren't careful, it could slip free from your grasp and fly out of sight, beyond reach.
Li Shu's gaze lingered on Yu Yangxu's hand gripping Mu Sheng's wrist.
The young man's wrist was thin, and his strength was weak—he couldn't even break free from his taller brother.
Inside the ancestral hall, the faint white smoke wavered for a moment. If any player standing near the incense burner had paid closer attention, they would have noticed that the drifting smoke had, at one point, straightened unnaturally.
Li Shu shifted his gaze, his lips moving slightly, and the smoke returned to its natural, physics-abiding form.
A nearby player sensed something, glancing at the ancient incense burner. Everything appeared normal, just as it had been at the start, but those standing close by suddenly felt a chill down their spines, as if they had stepped into an ice cavern.
"Hey, let's go check that out. Something feels off over there."
The player called out responded and walked hesitantly, casting one last glance at the old, worn-out statue.
The incense smoke coiled around the statue, making its already eroded face even harder to distinguish. The vague outline seemed to shift in the smoke, and more than one player mistook it for someone familiar.
One player felt a moment of confusion before gritting their teeth and walking away.
The players who arrived had divided their tasks relatively clearly. Some remained inside the ancestral hall to search for any useful texts or information, while others left to investigate the surrounding area.
Among those who left the hall were Fu Yanghui, Chen Lehe, and others, who made significant discoveries.
Last night, the players had already explored the scenes inside the ancestral hall, so they had lost interest in it. Now, they were all outside checking the surroundings.
They soon discovered a strange spot in the forest:
It appeared to be a construction site, planned like a typical tourist attraction, where they had started building a wooden display board meant to introduce the site and its main figures.
However, the area was clearly unfinished and left in a semi-complete state. It seemed to have been abandoned for a long time, as the wood used for construction was now corroded and riddled with insect holes.
