Chapter 82: The Deep Sea (VI)
Blair originally intended to engage Bo Sheng in a few more words to stall the time, but the deep sea's oppressive atmosphere made him too lazy to even put on a façade. He didn't hide the fact that he and Bo Sheng were acquainted, his tone distinctly impolite: "This is a research specimen from the institute. What does General Bo Sheng want with him?"
The other researchers, who had been quietly acting like wall decorations and dared not show their presence, were startled to learn of Bo Sheng's identity but also felt a sense of affirmation about it.
Bo Sheng remained unmoved, choosing not to engage in a detailed debate: "This is your matter."
Blair replied, "That strange crown and this mermaid were brought back by the research institute's expedition team from the dangerous deep sea; ownership belongs to the institute."
Bo Sheng countered, "Can the research institute's expedition team withstand the attacks of the deep-sea creatures alone?"
Blair shot back, "Then next time, General, refrain from intervening and properly assess whether the institute's security can withstand their attacks."
Bo Sheng fell silent.
His personal guards glanced at Blair's strikingly handsome face, feeling a mix of irritation and indignation. They had put in considerable effort to deal with the deep-sea tribes' attacks and maintain order and stability indoors, even sustaining some injuries. Now, they felt undermined, as if Blair deemed their efforts worthless.
Bo Sheng raised a hand to stop his guards, who were eager to argue and defend themselves. His dark demeanor suggested he was pondering something deeper.
Bo Sheng's eyes remained calm, showing no sign of being provoked by Blair's words. He replied evenly, "Next time, I'll pay closer attention, but that's a matter for another day."
The purpose of this visit was now clear.
Blair's previously masked smile vanished completely, his eyes narrowing with a cold detachment that wasn't hidden even by his simple white researcher's uniform. He scrutinized every detail on Bo Sheng's face before breaking into a genuine smile. "It's rare to see you so straightforwardly fixated on something after all these years."
Bo Sheng responded, "Some people click at first sight, while others, despite decades of acquaintance, only grow to dislike each other."
Blair seemed to find this amusing, his smile widening further.
Bo Sheng's personal guards had learned to interpret Blair's capricious moods. Seeing him smile did not impress them; instead, it made them feel uneasy. Unlike their familiar commanding officer, Blair's perpetual smile made him even more difficult to deal with.
Blair said, "If General Bo Sheng has nothing more to discuss, you may leave now."
Bo Sheng lifted his eyelids and glanced at the ecological tanks in the room before turning to leave.
The personal guards were taken aback. "General..."
They were clearly unwilling to accept this outcome, but Bo Sheng showed no signs of changing his mind. They would not defy their commander's orders, so they cast a few cold glares at the researchers who seemed ungrateful, and ultimately, they left.
The captain of the personal guard hesitated before approaching and asking, "You came personally to retrieve the mermaid, so why did you leave so abruptly?"
Bo Sheng had sent his personal guards and even come himself, showing how important this task was. Leaving empty-handed seemed contradictory to the conclusion the captain had drawn.
