Chapter 89: Deep Sea (XIII)
Mu Sheng's cheeks flushed as he weakly lifted his hand, examining his slender, pale fingers. They bore no features of a merman, looking completely human.
Just as he had anticipated, after using the tarot card in this instance, he had acquired a "different body" to use. However, compared to the body he had in the previous instance, this one felt much weaker.
Perhaps it was because his original form was a merman, and moving about on the extremely dry land as a human was difficult. Nevertheless, being able to leave the ecological tank and walk on solid ground was a significant advantage, even if his physical strength was somewhat lacking.
His legs felt as if they had never been properly used. Mu Sheng had to support himself against the wall to stand up, feeling as if he might fall at any moment. His legs were so weak and numb that he had to stand still for a while, then gently move around until he felt somewhat adjusted.
Supporting himself on the wall, Mu Sheng managed to lift his head, and his heartbeat quickened.
He hadn't noticed earlier, but now Mu Sheng realized he was standing right next to the ecological tank where the merman was held, leaning against its barrier.
When he looked up, he locked eyes with the tall male merman.
From his vantage point outside, using a human perspective, the merman's imposing presence felt even more intense. The merman was extremely "tall," with his tail fin extending more than two meters.
Mu Sheng made a quick comparison and noted that, given their size difference, his waist was narrower than the merman's tail fin. The merman seemed puzzled and curious about why he had taken on a human form, coming very close to the light barrier. If it weren't for the barrier, the merman could almost reach him with a slight tilt of his head.
Despite this, Mu Sheng felt enveloped by the merman's aura, as if he were being closely surrounded. The merman's intense gaze fell on the delicate human's throat, watching it move nervously.
Mu Sheng instinctively took a couple of steps back to distance himself from the merman, adjusting the slightly clinging merman's garment and pulling his hair in front of him.
Even though he understood the merman wasn't going to attack immediately and was presumably accepting of his transformation, Mu Sheng still explained, "I'm still a merman, just with a special ability. I'll turn back soon."
As he spoke, the small, human-like mouth moved, and the merman, with his excellent dynamic vision, instinctively focused on it before quickly looking away.
This allowed him to barely focus on Mu Sheng's words, although he frowned.
"Merman?" The merman repeated, clearly upset and unable to accept being classified with such a foolish race.
Yet he had to admit that, compared to himself, the cute Mu Sheng resembled the hypocritical and deliberately crafted mermaids more closely. Especially the priestess mermaids who always concealed certain features when appearing before humans, intentionally leading ignorant humans to believe that treasures and mermaids were of the same race.
The merman repeated, seemingly confirming something: "Turn back..."
Mu Sheng heard the merman speak again and was momentarily distracted.
The merman's voice, like a deep and captivating instrument, lowered the listener's resistance to its minimum.
Mu Sheng rubbed his numb ears and reassured the merman, "Yes, I'm still a mermaid and will turn back. It will be easier for me to find the crown this way."
