I couldn't stop biting the skin around my nails off. I was nervous. More nervous than I should've been.

It's just this feels like a big deal. My girlfriend's meeting my family. And I know I don't want to introduce her as my friend because that feels disrespectful, she's my girlfriend and means so much more to me.

But in the back of my mind, I feel like something is going to go wrong.

"Are you ready to go bella?" Kira asked me softly.

"Yeah," I sighed.

"Come here," she opened her arms for me. The whole day I've been quieter and she understands why. She's not pushed me on it or anything, she has simply been next to me and reassured me that whatever happens, she's not leaving.

She's staying next to me. She said if it gets too much she'd have no hesitation bringing me back.

"It's gonna be okay bella, and if it isn't, I won't waste a second getting you out okay?" She reassured me as she wrapped her arms around me.

I buried my head in her chest and sighed. "It's just nerve-wracking," I said. "He can be a lot at times and in the wrong situations."

"I know bambina but I'll be right next to you yeah?" She kissed my temple, letting her lips linger a little longer.

"Yeah," I took a deep breath and stood tall once again. "Let's get this shit over with." I smiled softly and Kira chuckled while she sent me a warm smile.

"That's my girl," she kissed me and held my hand as we walked out of the room.

Since neither of us has a car here in New York right now, we took the hotel drivers into the Hamptons. The drive was two and a half hours with traffic. I don't remember much of it because I slept, I was sleeping once again to avoid my issues.

Kira held me in the back of the car the entire time.

When we got to my house, she woke me gently. "I think we're here bambina," she said softly.

I opened my eyes and saw the familiar cheer wood door with our two family cars parked in the pebble-stoned driveway. I took a deep breath and nodded. "Do we have to go inside?" I asked her.

"You tell me, if you want to go inside, we'll go and I'll hold your hand the entire time but if not, we'll turn right back around and you can sleep on the way back too," Kira said gently.

I took a deep breath and nodded. "We should go in, maybe it'll go well, I don't know yet but I guess it'll be okay. Just please don't let go of my hand." I asked her.

"Not a chance bella," she smiled and kissed me one last time before we got out of the car and walked up to the door.

I opened it and walked inside. The familiar grey walls and smell of something sweet coming from the kitchen sent my mind back to Thanksgiving, the last time I was home.

"Birdie? Is that you?" My brother called out.

"Yeah I'm home," I said. I bounced on my toes and squeezed her hand. She rubbed her thumb back and forth slightly in a calming manner.

Her cold front was already up and she had an emotionless look on her face.

After a moment, Emerson came into the hallway with a wide smile. He looked so happy to see me.

I watched his eyes move between Kira and myself. I was nervous for a second.

"I'm gonna start here," he said cheerfully pointing at Kira. "I'm Emerson, B's older cooler brother," he joked "and you must be Kira? The girlfriend?" He asked.
