✺ Kira POV ✺
Birdie and I have been back for a week and at first it was going well but things quickly changed and turned out not to be so good.
First I thought it was just the tension of us having to go back to hiding our relationship again and we talked but then she'd said it was because of Ella.
She'd seen us at the airport or claimed to abut when Birdie asked her how she'd seen us or what proof she had she avoided the question—deflecting our relationship once again. I was thankful she'd done that.
But it was eating away at her and she was worried Ella actually had seen us together. Over the next two days I took my time reassuring her that she couldn't have seen and if we were it was avoidable because at the end of the day we're just two people at the airport.
And as an extra measure we took the rest of week off from seeing each other. No TA sessions and no more of her lingering back once the class was over.
I didn't like not seeing her but it was needed, I'd rather us be safe than sorry. But this weekend we're getting a weekend to ourselves, something we need between us right now.
I just have to get through the rest of the day—it's only just begun.
I don't have lecture this morning so I'm taking it slow. Sasha, Nadia and I decided to have brunch, none of us have to go into work until later so we took advantage of the morning.
A quaint little cafe that sat close to the beach was where we'd decided to have brunch.
Like normal, I got avocado on toast with an egg and so did Nadia but Sasha got a toastie. And for all of us, we got mimosas.
"I've got some to tell you guys," Sasha said seriously.
"Okay, we're listening," I said.
"Two things actually—" she took a breath. "One is that Savannah is pregnant," she said.
"That's god new, congratulations!" Nadia said.
"Yeah, congratulations Sash," I said with a soft smile but she shook her head.
Nadia and I looked confusedly at her. "Lincoln is using it as leverage to gain full custody of our girls. That the second thing, he's filed for full custody of both Serenity and Skye." She said. Her tone dipped and it was clear this was something that was weighing her on her heavily.
She wasn't sad, she was pissed. When Sasha gets angry, she's not the type to say anything or shout. She'll remain quiet until it suits her to start talking.
"Can he do that?" Nadia asked.
"Apparently so," she said. "He said it'd mess with their perception of how life works and distort the image of a "perfect family"" She sighed.
"That's bullshit," I scoffed. "And a lawyer actually took this on?"
She nodded. "Someone said it was grounds to have more custody of them while I have the every other weekend." She said.
I was angry for her at this point. "That's bull, I'm sorry I know he's their father but what is he going to say? That your relationship distorts their view of love? When that's all you and Sav have ever shown them?" I said angrily.
"Are you fighting it? Do you have a plan?" Nadia asked the more logical questions.
"Sav and I are trying. He's told us if we have the baby, we won't need them because we'll have our own family and his kids need a father figure, not two mothers." She said.
