Wednesday, December 11th — it's event day.
I'm nervous yet excited. I've never been to something so fancy and high priority. It's an important night for Nadia and I don't want any of it to go badly for her.
Kira's spent all of yesterday talking me down from all the what-ifs I had. Some of them didn't even make sense. I worried that I would do something to mess up the evening for Nadia but Kira reassured me she'd be by my side the whole night.
That made me feel better.
But today's the day and we have a few hours to relax before we have to start getting ready.
"I like spending mornings like this," I said softly as I lay on her chest.
"Me too bella," she kissed my forehead softly. "Christmas Day is soon, are you planning to go home for it?" She asked.
Going home for Christmas was never my plan in the first place. I assumed I'd be spending it all with Kira but I've been thinking that maybe it wouldn't be so bad to go, maybe just for the day though.
I'd get to see my brother and my mom. I haven't seen either of them since Thanksgiving. Talking on the phone doesn't actually compare to seeing them face to face.
Maybe just going for the day would t be so bad.
"I don't know yet, maybe I'll go, I'm not sure," I said.
"Whatever you choose bella, I'll be here for you." She said softly.
"If I go, you should come with me. You can meet my mom and brother—the only family members I truly like." I said with a smile.
It hadn't been long that Kira and I have been going out but the simple idea of her meeting my family made me feel warm.
Taking boys home was never my thing. I had one boyfriend who met my parents by default because they'd seen us in a cafe but taking them over for dinner and formal introductions wasn't me.
However, the simple thought of taking Kira home with me made me excited. I felt butterflies swarm inside my stomach and I felt good about it all.
"I don't know bella, are you sure?" She asked.
"Yes! I mean Emerson can be a piece of work sometimes but he always means well and my mom's gonna love you." I explained.
"Have you told them you're dating me?"
"My professor? God no, I have not, I don't think that'll come out until after I've graduated." I chuckled lightly but Kira didn't seem amused.
I pursed my lips and she spoke again. "A woman Birdie? The last time your brother, Travis, knew we were talking, I got a cold shoulder. For weeks might I add." She said stern yet caring time now.
I sighed. "I know but that's not gonna happen. Travis and I have never been close and he doesn't weigh much on my life anymore, I don't care what he thinks." I said. "Plus I want to tell them who I'm dating," I whispered.
Her hazel eyes softened at me. "Are you sure? You don't have to bella, we can simply wait until you're comfortable and sure enough." She said.
"I'm sure, I want to be able to care for you and be your girlfriend loudly and proudly. What they say doesn't have an effect on me anymore." I said.
"Are you sure? Coming out and telling your family you have a girlfriend is a big thing, I want you to be comfortable bambina," she spoke gently. "If all you can do is care for me quietly, I'm not going to hold that against you."
"I am," I kissed the back of her hand. "what they have to say isn't going to affect me. Let me prove to you that I am, I want to care for you as openly as I can."
