Everyone knew Aiden Clark as the energetic adrenaline junkie who always had a smile on his face, regardless of the situation.

But that wasn't always the case.

A smile is a useful mask for many things, after all. Aiden knew that better than anyone, but so did another person. Tyler Hernandez had always known of Aiden's tendency to force his smile, he knew exactly what hid behind it.

The insecurities that Aiden kept in the dark.

The first sign that Tyler immediately caught, was when Aiden made up excuses to avoid a group hangout when it was suggested by Taylor. Usually he'd be the first one to agree to it.

The second sign made an appearance when Aiden was unusually quiet, both in the group chat and in person. While around the group, he kept his head down and barely said a word, when he was confronted about it, his excuse was that he was tired.

Those words set off alarms in Tyler's mind. The blonde was never tired, his energy was endless. So, while the others were chatting amongst themselves, Tyler grabbed Aiden's wrist and led him away from the group.

"Tyler--what are you doing?" Aiden questioned, his tone of voice was unusually soft and quiet. Tyler would give anything to hear Aiden's loud and energetic voice right now. The brunette boy said nothing, and continued dragging Aiden along towards his house.

While walking, Tyler shot a quick text to Taylor, explaining where they were so the girl wouldn't grow confused. Aiden wanted to ask a question again, but decided against it. Judging by the look on Tyler's face, the last thing Aiden wanted to do was irritate him more.

He was quite irritating after all.

At least, that's what he believed.

Tyler dragged Aiden up the stairs of his front porch, he proceeded to unlock the door, all with one hand. Once it was open, he pulled Aiden inside and closed the door behind him. Aiden remained silent, but confusion was evident on his expression.

The taller boy redirected his gaze to Aiden, his brows furrowed in frustration. Tyler had yet to let go of Aiden's wrist, and instead dragged him upstairs to his bedroom. "Can you explain why you're dragging me around like a ragdoll?" Aiden finally found his voice, which caught Tyler's attention.

"Can you explain why you're acting different?" Tyler reflected the question with one of his own, causing Aiden to fall silent.

Of course Tyler caught on.

"I don't know what you're talking about." Aiden muttered, suddenly finding interest in the floor. "Yes you do Aiden." Tyler slowly walked up to the blonde and gently placed his hands on either sides of Aiden's face, forcing the boy to look at him. "What's bothering you?" The taller boy asked, his tone as gentle as he could make it out to be.

Aiden seemed hesitant for a moment, he could see the concern in Tyler's eyes. It made him feel guilty for worrying the taller boy. "Nothing is bothering me Ty..." Aiden attempted to play it off with a small smile, but it was no use. Tyler was smarter than that.

"Something is bothering you, I can tell. You aren't as energetic as usual, and you declined a hangout when you're usually the first one to agree. You're extremely quiet today, both in the group chat and in person, you're never quiet." Tyler hit the nail right on the head, causing Aiden's shoulders to tense.
