It was unknown what the two of them were talking about. Jennie lowered her head and casually looked at her phone and read some messages from Rosé. She would occasionally raise her head and look at the two men standing side by side.
Lisa's usual elegance seemed to blend with the scenery as he casually stood there. His appearance was extremely eye-catching.
They were almost the same height, but because V's life wasn't as good as Lisa's in the past few years and due to the occasional sunburn when he was a teenager, his skin was slightly darker than Lisa's, but it made him a lot more mature.
The two brothers looked alike but had completely different encounters and fates. Jennie could understand V's taciturn silence. He still didn't treat this place as his home.
Jennie's gaze wandered towards the two of them. One was her beloved husband, and the other was the most important person in her life that she once depended on.
Seemingly noticing her gaze, Lisa shifted his attention to her as he said something to V.
Jennie immediately grinned at him and waved her hand, telling him to ignore her and continue his conversation.
When her gaze fell on V again, she suddenly saw that the back of his hand was actually a bit swollen. It didn't look like a small swelling, it was a large red swelling that extended all the way down from his arm.
Jennie secretly frowned and unknowingly stepped towards him.
"You should know Director Xu's character. I can see that you've already come into contact with him three or four times before, so you should understand him. This time, you ..." Lisa was about to tell V something when Jennie suddenly grabbed V's arm. Her actions made Lisa stop talking.
Jennie held V's wrist with quite a bit of force. His body also shook a bit as if it was very painful, but he resisted the urge to let her know and quickly tried to withdraw his hand with an expressionless face.
Jennie, however, did not let go. As they both struggled, Lisa glanced at the swelling and redness on the back of V's hand and frowned slightly. "What's wrong with your hand?"
V tried to put his hand down, not letting Jennie look at it. His eyes were a little impatient. "Jennie, let go!"
"Where did the wound on your hand come from?" Jennie looked at him sternly. "You want to hide it from me?"
She took advantage of the fact that V didn't dare to shake her off because of her pregnancy and pulled up his sleeve. When she saw the swollen skin on his arm, she felt goosebumps all over her body.
Her lips trembled as she looked at V and frowned, "What happened? This doesn't look like a recent injury? Who hit you? Did you fight with someone? You're not someone who will go out and have a fight! Who did it? Speak!"
"Jennie, this is Manoban Residence. Don't you need to avoid suspicion?" At this moment, the sound of footsteps came from the backyard. V didn't bother with her anymore, he forcibly swung his arm and turned to leave.
When Jennie was swung like this, Lisa immediately held her in his arms and hugged her tightly. He frowned at V. At that moment, Old Man walked out from inside with a smile.
Jennie was about to seize V's arm when the Old Man appeared in front of them.
"What's going on? Spoiled girl has gone on vacation in the United States, and upon returning, she was unwilling to enter the gates of the Manoban Family? This Old Man has been waiting in the house for a long time and yet the two of you have not come in."
"Grandfather."
Jennie came back to her senses and turned around to smile at the Old Man. At the same time, she heard the sound of a car behind her. When she looked back, she saw that V had already started the engine.
"What's wrong? Spoiled girl, why does your face look that bad?"
Old Man walked over and looked at Jennie. As he stood in front of her and Lisa, he asked in a low voice that only the two of them could hear. "I heard you brought Jia back to this country?"
The Old Man's tone of voice didn't sound interrogative, but it wasn't gentle either. He wanted to confirm this matter.
Just as Jennie was about to answer, Lisa squeezed her hand, signaling for her to be quiet. He then said with a calm smile, "Grandfather, you also know that Jia is a good friend of Jennie's mother. She was worried about her. In order to bring Jennie back safely, I have no choice but to bring Jia back too."
No matter how unhappy the Old Man was, he would only rebuke them for bringing someone home without his permission, or for being reckless. However, his reaction was unexpected. Old Man didn't say anything, only smiled, then looked at Jennie's expression. "What's wrong? I don't think this spoiled girl is in a good mood."
V was seriously injured in the arm. He had just left the Manoban Family. How could the Old Man not see it, but even if he did, the Old Man still acted so naturally.
Something was wrong here, so how can Jennie feel at ease?
Seemingly seeing the doubt and a forced smile on Jennie's face, Old Man held his cane with both hands and looked at her with a smile, "Spoiled girl, do you have any objections to grandpa?"
"No, grandfather, I just had a long journey. Perhaps I was too tired and couldn't bring myself to do anything."
She had just returned and wasn't clear about what had happened in the Family in the past few days. She felt that it would be better for her to handle this matter slowly and carefully.
"Let's go inside first. Spoiled girl, did you bring some good tea for me when you came back? Come on, let's go to the study and let me have a taste!"
As they walked back to the mansion, Old Man was like an old child. He didn't stop talking and asked Jennie to follow him.
Before Jennie went upstairs, Lisa gave her a calm look, telling her not to worry and to take it easy. She nodded and followed the Old Man quietly upstairs.
Upon entering the study, Old Man immediately went to sit in his chair with the same attitude when he punished her standing like a soldier. Jennie could not guess what the Old Man was thinking, so she took out the tea she had bought and poured it into the cup for him before placing it slowly on the table in front of him.
"Do you have any questions you would like to ask me?" Suddenly, the Old Man opened his mouth and glanced at her.
Jennie's hand that was holding onto the teacup stopped slightly as she looked into the Old Man's eyes. She hesitated for a moment before shaking her head. "No, grandpa, let's have some tea."
"Spoiled girl, everyone has their own responsibilities and secrets that are unknown to others. This Old Man had lived to the age of eighty, and at this age, besides having hope for my children and grandchildren, I had no desire or demand for anything else. At my age, there were so many things in the past that I didn't want anyone else to know, and given your intelligence, spoiled girl, you probably wouldn't be able to understand."
"Grandfather, I understand."
Jennie lowered her eyes. In fact, she hadn't planned to ask the Old Man for anything. She didn't think he would take the initiative to say these things to her.
Seeing that she was sensible, Old Man nodded with satisfaction. "It's good that you understand. Since that's the case, I won't say anymore. Go rest."
When Jennie turned to leave, she suddenly stopped her steps. After a moment of hesitation, she looked back and saw the Old Man drinking the tea. After thinking for a moment, she asked, "V's injury.."
Old Man drank his tea indifferently. He only put the cup after he drank half a cup of tea. He glanced at her and said, "I did it."
Jennie tightened her grip on the door frame and looked at the Old Man in disbelief.
