This was it, it was finally fall which meant decorating for Halloween. You couldn't be more excited. You had your hot apple cider and your fuzzy socks and you were ready to decorate your chambers. The only thing you didn't think of was the fact that your chambers were no longer your own. You and your fiance shared a living chamber, you weren't sure how he would feel about you decorating but he'd been in your chambers many times when it was decorated for the holidays and never said anything about. You brought your box of decorations out and started decorating after your last class of the day. Your last period was your free period so you didn't have to stay in your classroom unless a student made it clear they wanted to come for some extra lessons. Today no one approached you so you decided while Sev was stuck in class and out of your way you would decorate. You had glass pumpkins you were putting on end tables and one on the coffee table. You had a couple plastic ones that lit up that you put on the floor by the fireplace. You put some string lights around the entrance to your chambers and your bedroom. You also had a couple cute Halloween themed table runners that you put on the kitchen table and coffee table. You were just about to start putting the cobwebs on the book shelves when you heard the door to your chambers open.
"Hey, sweetheart!" You called from the living room. You could hear his steps slow when he reached the threshold from the hallway to the living room
"What are you doing?" You heard his deep voice from behind you.
"Decorating. Wanna help. I could use your height." You replied not even turning to look at him.
"This is our home for the next eight months, not a haunted house." He sighed and started looking around.
"It's Halloween Sev, time to decorate. Just wait until Christmas, I love decorating for Christmas."
"You do realize that this is where I live, right?"
"Yes, it's where I live too. I want to make it more festive." You replied, continuing to hang the cobwebs.
"And you never thought to ask me before you did all this?"
"You see my room every year before we started sharing chambers. I figured if you didn't like it you would have said something before. You know I do this every year." You answered.
"That's not the point, the point is we're sharing this space and if you want to do something like this you should run it past me first. Especially when it's something like making this place look absolutely childish." He scoffed.
"Sev, it's just Halloween decorations, I didn't think you'd care that much. I mean look how dark and morbid this place is, it looks like a haunted house anyway."
"It does not look like a haunted house. It looks mature and intelligent. Which is less than I can say about these childish, immature, idiotic decorations. Christmas I understand decorating for. I don't necessarily like it but I understand it. Halloween is a childish holiday and the fact you get so excited by it as an adult is ridiculous." He spat out angrily.
"Okay, I don't know what the student's did to you but you're not gonna come in here and take it out on me. Okay, I understand if you had a bad day and you want to vent but don't sit here and direct your anger at me." You turned and pointed a firm finger at him.
"This has nothing to do with the student's and everything to do with you. This is our shared space, it was my space first you don't get to just come in here and do what you please." You got off the chair you were standing on while you were hanging the cobwebs.
"What has gotten into you! God Merlin's sake Severus this isn't that serious. If you really don't like the idea of me decorating there was a much nicer way to go about this. You don't just get to come in here and unload all this on me. You can't tell me that decorating for Halloween is what makes you this upset. If its because of the students like I said I get you had a bad day but I'm not your punching bag you're not going to treat me like this when I've done nothing wrong. So why don't you sit down and tell me the real reason you're acting like this?"
"This is a silly holiday that makes people think they could get away with anything. Ever heard of mischief night? That's when the students come into my classroom and make it their mission to destroy the place. And of course the headmaster finds it amusing so nothing ever happens because of it. They get detention from me but every year they think the detention is worth it. This is a stupid holiday that an adult like yourself shouldn't be so obsessed with." He ranted.
"You've had bad experiences in the past. I get it, but that's the students, not the holiday. And I agree the headmaster needs to do something to prevent this from happening every year, it's not fair to you or any of the other professors they might be doing it to. But like I said, you can't just take out your frustrations on me. I haven't wronged you and if you really hate the decorations I'll take them down." You stood in front of him. He was still glaring back down at you.
"It's been a very long day. I'm sorry I snapped at you, it's not fair of me. I really just want to take a nap, I just feel exhausted and drained." He sighed and you saw his shoulders fall.
"It's alright, I know we both have our temper tantrums and sometimes we need to vent. But I would rather you vent to me and not at me if that makes sense."
"It does. I'm tired. I want to go lay down before dinner."
"How about I join you. We can cuddle and take a nap. I've missed you today. I haven't crossed paths with you at all today, not even at lunch." You took his hand and led him to your bedroom.
"Yes, I ended up having to sit with a student and have him rebrew a potions after he almost blew up the whole class. It was infuriating. I don't understand what is so difficult about following instructions. They had their textbooks for this assignment. It wasn't like it was done by memory." He shook his head.
"Well, you modified your textbook to make it easier for you. Not all the students can do that. If they would take your old textbook and republish it into new techniques then it would make potions so much easier. You are brilliant love, not everyone can think to do the things you did." You reminded him.
"I know but the old ways have worked for many years. There's no excuse as to why students can't use the old ways."
"I agree, but for some students potions is the most difficult class and having that extra help would do them a lot of good. Everything needs to be updated eventually. You have the most effective way of brewing potions. Is there anyone you could go to to have them see about updating it. It would make your day a lot easier."
"The minister of magic would have to approve it and the odds of that are slim to none." He sighed and shed his cloak and outer layers until he was only in his undershirt and boxers.
"Let's relax for a while and we can talk more later." You hummed when your head hit his chest.
"Talk about what?"
"About what we're gonna do for Halloween. This year it lands on a Saturday which means we have nothing to do for the night. We can go to a bar, or throw a party with the teachers or something but I am not staying home."
"I still think this is a silly holiday. But if it means that much to you I'll go along with whatever childish plans you decide upon."
"That's the spirit." You patted his chest.
