"Rest assured, Ting Ting."

"I won't cling to you anymore."

In two weeks, they would be apart. Ran Ling knew how deeply she had wronged Yu Ting and that forgiveness was impossible, so she wouldn't bother her any longer.

Returning to her room, Yu Ting sank into the sofa, unsettled and irritable. She took out her phone, opening her chat with Ran Ling. For a while, she typed and erased repeatedly, before finally sending her a single period and tossing the phone aside.

She sat there, doing nothing but waiting. As the sun set, Ran Ling still hadn't replied, nor had she come by to knock on her door.

Yu Ting's mind spun bitterly. What was that pitiful act supposed to mean? Did she think a few carefully chosen words would make Yu Ting feel guilty? Did she still think Yu Ting was the same person who used to be unable to see her in pain without rushing to comfort her?

Crying was her usual tactic. Why did Ran Ling assume that her tears or sadness would make Yu Ting want to keep her around? Ran Ling must think very highly of herself.

If she didn't cling to her, all the better. After all this time, Yu Ting was already tired of her.

Once she was healthy and free again, Ran Ling would fade out of her life like she was never there, like a passing shadow Yu Ting could easily forget.

Yu Ting closed her eyes, taking a deep breath.

Dinner arrived soon after, and though the housekeeper brought her meal upstairs, Yu Ting neither responded nor opened the door. The housekeeper, torn, worried about Yu Ting missing a meal while she was still recovering, yet she didn't dare to enter uninvited, afraid of upsetting her. Eventually, she approached Ran Ling, who was just starting dinner downstairs. "Miss Ling, Ms. Yu won't eat. I knocked, but there was no answer. Could you try talking to her? I'm really concerned."

Ran Ling offered to help. "I'll take it to her."

The housekeeper sighed, puzzled. "She hasn't opened the door twice now."

"She's probably asleep," Ran Ling replied with a soft smile.

"Oh, thank you so much, Miss Ling."

Ran Ling approached Yu Ting's door, carrying the food. "Ting Ting?"

There was no answer.

She tried again. "Ting Ting."

After a few seconds, a voice from inside called out, "It's not locked. Come in."

Her tone was calm—no sign of sleep or any illness.

Ran Ling chuckled softly and entered. Yu Ting was on the sofa, eyes focused intently on a black-and-white film playing on the television. Not wanting to disturb her, Ran Ling quietly set the meal on the coffee table and made to leave, but Yu Ting glanced her way and said, "Feed me."

Her tone was cold, more like a command.

Ran Ling blinked, then obediently took a seat, patiently scooping up a spoonful of soup and carefully blowing on it before bringing it to Yu Ting. Yu Ting stopped watching the film, turning her gaze sharply on Ran Ling instead, studying her as she ate.

What was Ting Ting thinking? Ran Ling couldn't guess her intentions, but kept feeding her, determined not to make her unhappy.

"Have you eaten?" Yu Ting asked, taking another sip of soup.

"Not yet," Ran Ling answered, meaning she had been on her way downstairs to eat.

"Then go on down," Yu Ting said, not wanting her to go hungry. "Leave the food. I'll eat it myself."
