Jiang Yuan gently continued her task, carefully parting Lin Kong's clothing. Lin Kong's body bore numerous gruesome wounds, which had been shocking to see when Jiang Yuan first cleaned them. Thankfully, they had started to scab over.

With gentle fingers, Jiang Yuan applied the healing salve around Lin Kong's injuries. The coolness of the ointment made Lin Kong let out a soft hum.

Jiang Yuan paused, looking at Lin Kong's face, filled with the hope for her awakening. She was patient enough to wait for someone to wake up, but she didn't like waiting.

However, Lin Kong's hum was fleeting, and she continued to lie still, eyes closed and silent.

Jiang Yuan's eyes dimmed with disappointment. The doctor had said Lin Kong needed time to recover from her internal injuries. Maybe she was being too impatient.

Resuming her careful application of the salve, Jiang Yuan's heart trembled slightly when her fingers brushed over Lin Kong's chest, making her touch even more tender.

Just then, soft footsteps approached from behind. Jiang Yuan quickly withdrew her hand, pulled the blanket over Lin Kong, and worried she might disturb her wounds, moved with an endearing awkwardness.

Jing Anrui entered without knocking, considering there were no men to worry about and not expecting to find such a scene. She glanced at the medicine bottle and asked with concern, "How is she?"

"The doctor said she'll wake up after some rest," Jiang Yuan replied, adjusting Lin Kong's clothing and removing excess covers since too much warmth could harm the wounds in early spring.

"That's good." Jing Anrui sat casually, seemingly offhandedly saying, "I plan to send troops to eliminate Song Qingwei's remaining rebels. Can you help locate their base?"

Though ascended to the throne, it was still the mourning period, and Jing Anrui hadn't held a coronation yet.

Thus, Jiang Yuan still referred to her as the prince, responding directly, "You've likely already found their base. Why ask me?"

"I want to be thorough. Song Qingwei is cunning, like a fox with many dens," Jing Anrui insisted on eliminating every threat, ensuring no loose ends.

Jiang Yuan frowned slightly, asking bluntly, "Do you intend to target Song Keyan?"

Jing Anrui laughed, "Do you think me so petty? I have no quarrel with her. Why strain your friendship? It's best if we can coexist peacefully."

Coexist peacefully? Essentially, if they don't provoke her, she won't provoke them. Jiang Yuan didn't comment, understanding Jing Anrui's caution. She wouldn't tolerate a potential threat nearby either.

Changing the topic, Jiang Yuan said, "Once Kong'er recovers, I plan to leave the capital for Yunzhou and Jiangnan to take care of some matters. I hope you permit it. As for the rebels' hideouts, you've likely uncovered most, and I know no more."

Jing Anrui, aware of Jiang Yuan's tasks, agreed but persisted, "I mainly need Shi Qi's help to track down the remnants. She knows more than soldiers."

Jiang Yuan couldn't decide for Shi Qi and would have to ask her directly. She sensed Jing Anrui had another question, or she wouldn't have come personally. After storing the medicine, she sat across from Jing Anrui, drinking tea without asking.
