Lin Kong must have seen something quite shocking, for she was shyly covering her eyes, peeking through her fingers to continue reading.

Jiang Yuan instinctively glanced at the bag where she had hidden the spring palace book, worried that Lin Kong had found it. However, the bag was safely tucked away in the cabinet, out of sight from the doorway.

She carefully closed the door and approached the bed slowly. Lin Kong seemed oblivious to her presence, absorbed in her book, her cheeks growing redder by the moment.

Feeling a bit overlooked, Jiang Yuan couldn't help but feel a twinge of disappointment. Given Lin Kong's usual alertness, how could she not notice her arrival?

Convinced that Lin Kong was indeed reading the spring palace book, Jiang Yuan walked over, stood beside her, and with a playful tone, said, "Kong'er."

Lin Kong was startled, her feet abruptly halting their playful kicking. She quickly tucked the book into her lap, flipped over to sit up, and used the blanket she'd been lying on to cover herself.

She moved so quickly that Jiang Yuan missed seeing the book's cover and asked, "What are you reading? Your face is all red."

Lin Kong rubbed her face, trying to appear more composed, and mumbled, "Reading... a book."

The more evasive she was, the more suspicious Jiang Yuan became. Sitting on the bed, Jiang Yuan pressed, "What book?"

Lin Kong scooted back, holding her ground, "Just a book."

Jiang Yuan, with a knowing smile, rephrased, "A little yellow book?"

Unexpectedly, Lin Kong brightened, astonished, "Wife, how did you know?"

Jiang Yuan: "..."

Something about Lin Kong's reaction seemed off. Her blush, though prominent, appeared genuinely embarrassed, not like someone caught reading a spring palace book. Perhaps she miscalculated.

Jiang Yuan sighed, "Let me see the book."

Hesitant, Lin Kong handed it over. As Jiang Yuan received it, she noticed it was a worn yellow book, not the same cover as the spring palace book. Flipping through, she realized it was a typical romance novel, describing a kiss between a man and a woman with delicate language.

Jiang Yuan wasn't sure whether to label Lin Kong as overly innocent or herself as overly suspicious. Lin Kong was engrossed in a simple kissing scene, yet acted so boldly in other situations...

Feeling a bit thwarted, Jiang Yuan said, "Why were you hiding it if it's just a book?"

Lin Kong, watching Jiang Yuan cautiously, leaned against her shoulder, "Kong'er was afraid you'd be upset."

Jiang Yuan paused, understanding Lin Kong's concern. It was just a romance novel; why would she be upset?

Female-female relationships were niche, but did Lin Kong expect her to reject heterosexual love?

Jiang Yuan clarified, "All love is valid. I don't mind as long as it doesn't affect us."

Considering, Lin Kong agreed, then bluntly asked, "Why did you want the book so badly? It's pure, with nothing else."
