From the beginning, Lin Kong noticed something off about Shi Qi's demeanor, especially when she handed over the book with a furtive air. But Lin Kong never expected the book to be...
"Snap!" She quickly closed the book, realizing the noise might wake Jiang Yuan. She tucked it back into her lap, sitting nervously and pretending nothing had happened.
Jiang Yuan wasn't actually asleep. Hearing the book snap shut, she opened her eyes just in time to see Lin Kong's flushed cheeks and guilty expression. Curious, she asked, "Kong'er, what's wrong?"
Caught off guard, Lin Kong nearly blurted out an explanation, then hastily waved her hands, "Nothing's wrong with Kong'er."
Her eyes darted everywhere, avoiding Jiang Yuan's gaze, her head hanging low as if something fascinating lay at her feet.
Lin Kong's obviously suspicious behavior piqued Jiang Yuan's curiosity. The carriage was small, yet spacious enough for them to sit apart. Jiang Yuan moved beside Lin Kong, watching her silently.
Lin Kong sat nervously, wishing she could leap from the carriage but too afraid to act. She was relieved to have hidden the book well, out of Jiang Yuan's sight.
But in her haste, the book's red cover peeked out. Jiang Yuan, sharp-eyed, spotted it immediately, pointing, "What's that in your lap?"
"Ah?" Lin Kong glanced down, her mental preparation crumbling. She shoved the book further into her lap, crossing her arms protectively, "Nothing."
Even she didn't believe her own words, stubbornly resisting. After all, Jiang Yuan had recently reminded her to behave, and now Shi Qi had given her this book...
Jiang Yuan's tone was calm but firm, "Let me see it."
Lin Kong, despite her reluctance, shook her head, "No."
Handing it over would confirm her disobedience. She was supposed to be well-behaved, and she hadn't asked for the book.
The more Lin Kong resisted, the more Jiang Yuan's curiosity grew, like a cat itching to catch its prey.
Jiang Yuan's expression was serious, not playful, "Will you give it to me?"
Lin Kong's temperament was peculiar—sometimes yielding to pressure, sometimes not. Ultimately, Jiang Yuan's voice was the deciding factor.
After a long hesitation, Lin Kong pulled out the book, handing it to Jiang Yuan. As soon as Jiang Yuan took it, Lin Kong dropped her head, looking like a guilty wife.
Jiang Yuan's curiosity intensified. Glancing at the cover, she saw the title "Feng Yi Lun," initially mistaking it for a literary work. Surprised that Lin Kong might read something serious, she flipped it open, only to find explicit, bold illustrations.
Startled, she snapped the book shut, eyes flashing with anger, "Who gave you this?"
In that moment, she felt a pang of disappointment, fearing Lin Kong was straying. However, she knew Lin Kong wouldn't have found such a book on her own.
Lin Kong quickly shifted the blame, "It was from Senior Sister."
She had been equally baffled by the book's contents, not expecting it to be so... stimulating.
