Lin Kong allowed Jiang Yuan to poke her forehead, feeling rather delighted. To Lin Kong, Jiang Yuan's poking felt comforting, tinged with a sense of helpless affection. She tossed aside the sword she had been holding and hugged Jiang Yuan's waist tightly, nuzzling her face into Jiang Yuan's neck and inhaling her familiar scent. She murmured softly, "Wife..."
Her voice was filled with grievance and vulnerability. If not for the fact that Jiang Yuan knew she was the one who had been thoroughly "eaten up" last night, she might have felt sorry for Lin Kong.
Jiang Yuan wrapped her arms around Lin Kong, gently patting her back and ruffling her hair, her voice unconsciously tender, "Did you go out early and get upset?"
She didn't realize how much her words resembled the interaction between a pet owner and their beloved pet.
Lin Kong didn't notice anything amiss either, but she turned her head slightly, feeling guilty, "I... I didn't run away."
In truth, she had run away, but halfway through, she changed her mind and returned.
Seeing Lin Kong was unwilling to admit the truth, Jiang Yuan thought about how she had wandered all over the place in her disheveled state, both inside and outside the house, not knowing how many people had seen her in such an embarrassing condition.
Suddenly, her frustration surged, and she pushed Lin Kong away angrily, "You didn't run? If you didn't, why couldn't I find you anywhere?"
Her voice unconsciously grew louder, indeed angry. Yet, as she spoke, the emotions she had been suppressing burst forth, her eyes turning red. Coupled with the dark circles under her eyes, she indeed looked both anxious and upset.
Lin Kong was startled by Jiang Yuan’s appearance, hurriedly wiping her tears with her hands, "Wife, don't cry."
Jiang Yuan turned her head away, coldly saying, "I'm not crying."
She only felt like someone had taken advantage of her and then left, leaving her to worry alone, evoking a sense of encountering an ungrateful person.
Seeing her hands were ineffective, Lin Kong switched to using her sleeve, noticing Jiang Yuan's eyes getting redder. Lin Kong herself choked up, "Your eyes are all red."
"...," Jiang Yuan fumed, "I'm angry because of you!"
After searching for so long, only for the person to be at home all along. If Shi Qi hadn't suggested she come back, she wouldn't have known how long she'd continue searching outside. The more she thought about it, the angrier she became, a knot of resentment stuck in her chest. Having overexerted herself last night, her legs gave way, and she nearly collapsed.
Lin Kong panicked, quickly supporting her waist, stammering, "Wife, I... I..."
She wanted to continue claiming she hadn't run away, but she had indeed left with the intention of not returning. She hadn't planned on coming back.
Actually, after their passionate night, Lin Kong hadn't slept well. She spent the night watching the exhausted Jiang Yuan sleep, knowing she should trust Jiang Yuan's words, yet feeling terribly conflicted. She planned to investigate the truth herself before returning to confront Jiang Yuan.
But as she was about to leave, she felt an overwhelming reluctance. She kissed Jiang Yuan’s forehead, tucked the blanket around her, gathered their clothes scattered on the floor, and messily tied her hair into a bun before leaving with great reluctance.
