Chapter 62 - Why Didn't you Tell Me

Red pov:

Woke up to Chloe's alarm blaring. I instinctively grabbed onto something, which was Chloe, who was on me. I held her tightly until I realized it was just the alarm.

Chloe: Awe, you're super cute and protective in your sleep.

I gently loosen my grip as we then kiss before having to get up for school. We ate breakfast like normal, but before getting up from our table, I wanted to say a few things.

Red: I have a bit of a plan that will probably help us in the long run. We know that both your artifacts haven't been destroyed, which is great news for us. I do want to be extra cautious and so use it only privately in the dorm. Mal, I want to know if you can still cast spells even without the book.

Mal: Yes, the book is only a guidance.

Red: I want you to memorize as many helpful and critical spells that we can use in the future. Chloe, would you mind also trying to memorize a few? The more of us know the spell, the better.

Chloe: Sure, sounds fun.

I then faced Evie, who was waiting for me to talk to her.

Red: As for you, Evie, I would like to have a one on one with you after school to talk about your mirror and other matters i find important.

Mal: Why one on one?

Red: because I simply don't want you....

I point to her before pointing to Chloe.

Red: and You, to hear our important convo.

Chloe: Well, I already know it's about me. 

Red: Hush....

Chloe giggles but doesn't say anything else on that. The bell rings, and we head to class, where we kept chatting a little in the back. It was honestly really fun to talk to Mal. I didn't think I'd like her as much as I do, but we got a few things in common I don't have with anyone else, so that's nice. She told me a little more about her life on the Isle, and I shared a bit about how it was like in Wonderland. I'm sure a few students close to us were listening to us, but I didn't care. I know most people here think I'm a monster just like my mom. I sorta gave up trying, I'll just continue being myself, besides that's what Chloe said she likes about me. Maybe one day more ppl can see me like she does. After school, I quickly kissed Chloe in the hall, making sure no one saw before sending her to fencing. I sent Mal to the dorm to study and memorize her spell book while I took Evie to a bench on the far side of the garden.

Evie: So you wanted to talk about my mirror?

Red: partially, yes, but one other thing after that. What I want to know is how your mirror works and if there's any uses that can help us against the queen.

She takes out her mirror from her pocket and shows it to me before asking it a question, and the answer shows up seconds later.

Evie: it can't do everything, but it's very smart and can help with a lot of things. Want to try it?

Red: So anyone can use it?

Evie: Yes.... but abuse it, and it won't comply.

I looked confused?

Evie: it just means using it for bad intentions. But people would find a way to manipulate it if they really tried.

So I gave it a try.

Red: magic mirror in my hand, show the queen of hearts.

The mirror then fades and shows my mother.

QoH: Another year, my own daughter decided to be a disappointment, and another year, I won't be doing anything for her.
