( Underworld, Gremory Territory
Two days had gone by, and Issei had been nowhere to be found. No messages, texts or calls saying he was okay and just relaxing somewhere far away, a few in the group had also speculated he would return while they were training to surprise attack them. A move most of those he had trained had experienced enough times, to feel a fraction of the ptsd that Vietnam veterans had experienced. But not Irina.
The worrying had made her lose sleep, as her thoughts kept spinning, steering her thoughts in the directions of possible explanation of where or why he had left them. It could be her, Rias, Akeno, Azazel or someone else's fault, maybe he just wanted to be left alone for a while or had his family gotten their hands on him. Either family would work as culprits, but not knowing which would most likely do it, added more stress. So to keep herself and her sleep deprived mind occupied, she used a lot of her time in the library.
Studying whatever caught her interest, until she picked a new subject. The others had decided to give her some space, with Rias and Xenovia mainly coming by and checking in on her throughout the day. And this beautiful Monday morning, the first day of training, she was reading about devil clans. Xenovia had joined her around 5 in the morning, and had brought her own book to read. Together they sat, in total quiet, just reading.
A grandfather clock rang for 6, alerting the two to soon meet up with the others for breakfast. Irina closed her book about "Cooking for Sacred User's". She felt tired, but couldn't tell if she would fall asleep if she tried to, so instead she ignored the feeling and got up from her seat on the sofa the two had been sharing. Xenovia was fully focused on her book, so Irina had to call out to her." Hey, it's breakfast time." Xenvia nearly jumped out of her seat, surprising Irina.
" Sorry, did I startle you?" She took a step back, feeling she might need a little space. She got a glance at the book she was reading, it had a familiar binding to it." Wha.. oh no, sorry. I was too.. Uh sucked in, yeah." She seemed unsure of what she was saying, like she was hiding something. Irina wanted to ask about the book, But before she could ask, Xenovia started to get off the sofa." It's fine, here." She reached a hand out, helping Xenovia off the sofa." Thanks..."
A little moment of silence was shared by the two, before Irina remembered she wanted to ask about the book. So she did." Oh the book?.. Um it's some old encyclopedia, you know? Old, boring.. Uninteresting and old." Xenovia answered, holding the book close to her chest, forgetting to hide the name of it. She spun it around the moment she noticed Irina staring, but it was too late. As now Irina had a similar face of shock as Xenovia had earlier, except the shock seemed to turn near instantly into panic and anger, as Irina grabbed the book, ripping it out of her hands and making sure it really was the book she thought it was.
" Why do you have that book, Xenovia?" Irina asked angrily, as she held tightly onto the cover of the book, The Monster's Tells, almost like she wanted to throw it away, but was unable to do so." I.. I thought I would take back my book, so I went to your room and took it and thought.. Maybe I should study it a bit.." She sounded apologetic, but her eyes seemed conflicted." I just wanted to study up.. And then I saw.. I saw someone in it.. Someone I've met once." A flicker of hate shot up her eyes, as the image of that person came back to her.
" Someone? Who exactly?" Irina asked, hoping dearly it wasn't who she had seen in it." Chimera.." Xenovia answered.
