069. THE PLAN TO GET TO SAFETY

Chapter sixty nine

"The plan to get to safety." 

When morning broke, Katniss was standing in the bathroom, looking at herself in the mirror she had dried blood all over, as she grabbed her hair on the left side of her head, she used her knife and cut it off, where all the long brown pieces fell to the floor, she then grabbed the right side and did the same thing, letting those pieces fall as well, her hair was now shoulder length, she crouched down, putting her knife back in her boot, she stood up, grabbing her machete off the counter and walking out of there.

Heading down the stairs and out of the house, she looked off to the right, seeing two dead saviors lying in the street, she walked over to them, crouching down, she grabbed the walkie, putting it in her holster, she then used her machete and cut them open, putting fresh blood on her, she stood up and turned walking past all the walkers and to the gate.

Where she had been walking for awhile, before she stopped and brought the walkie up, pressing down on it "I wanna talk to Negan." she said, as she let go of the button "who the hell's asking?" a savior asked, as Katniss pressed down on the button "Katniss Dixon." she said, letting go of it "Katniss, look at you, calling me up. You wanna tell me where you are so we can do this face to face?" Negan asked, as Katniss pressed down on the button "so you can come an execute us all, I don't think so. I contacted you as a reminder that no matter what you think you did last night to any of us? Whoever's left, will continue on fighting you until your all dead." she shared, throwing down the walkie, she stepped on it, and began walking off.

Meanwhile, Carl and the others were still walking through the woods, as Rosita ran up to him and Daryl "hey, hey." she said, putting her hand on Carl's shoulder, him and Daryl turned around "where are the others?" Carl asked "they needed rest. They're exhausted. They haven't slept." Rosita shared "no, Katniss gave strict instructions we don't stop." Carl shared, holding up the piece of paper "no, we can wait ten minutes. Then we keep going. Give her some time to catch up. I'm gonna go back cover our tracks." Daryl shared "I'll go with you." Rosita told him, as the two began walking off.

"I have a question. Is there a reason why he's still breathing?" Tara asked about Dwight "the fight ain't over." Daryl told her "it is for him. I'm done waiting." Tara shared, as Daryl shook his head "not now. Not yet." Daryl told her, walking off, Carl followed him.

Where once there tracks were covered, they all were sitting down as Carl unfolded the paper, Daryl took out the map "okay, so Katniss said that these passes would be covered between here and hilltop." Carl shared, pointing at them "we have to keep moving. We'll just have to risk it." Rosita shared "we don't have to. Let me see that?" Daryl asked Carl, as Carl handed him the paper, Daryl looked it over as he hummed "she said the swamp.." he said, pointing at it on the map "would be safe." he said "kid knows her stuff. Negan won't send his men down there. Not if he doesn't have to." Dwight shared, as he walked over "yeah. And how do you know that?" Tara asked.

"Negan wanted to map the best routes with cover from the sanctuary to the hilltop. He..he decided that the swamp was too dangerous. Didn't think it was worth the risk." Dwight shared. as Carl, Daryl and Rosita looked at each other, Tara looked at them and stood up "you aren't seriously gonna listen to him?" she asked "no, we're listening to Katniss." Carl told her, folding up the map and standing up "who left us in a sewer!" Tara voiced "Tara has a point. Why should we trust either of them?" Tobin asked "Katniss hid the fact that she had bombs set up in every outpost. And he could turn on us like he turned on his own people." Scott shared.

"I didn't just turn on em. I killed em. Daryl saw it. Rosita saw it. You saw it. But one of them got away..so if they find me Negan puts my head on a pike. I'm not working for them, and I'm not going back to them. I chose my side. This is it. And I'm here to help you beat Negan. After that.." Dwight sight, chuckling "well, I know how it ends." he shared "and Katniss is one of us. We're trying those swamps." Daryl shared, as Carl began walking off, Daryl followed him along with the others.

They all were getting close to them "this works, all credit goes to Katniss." Daryl shared "everything I did, it was for Sherry. It doesn't make it right. Or something that should be forgiven. But it's the truth. Only one I got left.  She's the one who let you and your kid out. Then she ran." Dwight shared "she's out here?" Daryl asked "somewhere. I hope." Dwight told him, as Carl was ahead of them he looked out at the swamp, and turned around "Daryl." he told him, as Daryl held his hand out to the others, he walked toward's him, and as he looked out, he saw the walker swimming in it, as he brought up his crossbow and shot it.

"We have to be careful, but we can do this." Rosita told them "push through. Clear a path for the others." Daryl shared "count me in.." Scott told them "I'll go." Siddiq told them "if I can have your crossbow.." Dwight was saying "you can't. You'll stay right there." Daryl told him, as Carl stepped in "let's go, before they catch up to us." he shared, as Daryl, Scott, Siddiq and Rosita followed him in.

They all were moving through the swamp, as a walker came out of the water it grabbed onto Rosita, as Carl moved over to her, stabbing it in the head, Daryl and Siddiq looked over at them, as Rosita and Carl looked at them and nodded, they all continued moving through, Rosita looked back "you keep going." she told Carl, as she turned walking back out.

Where once it was fully cleared, they were waiting with the others as Rosita and Tara came back with no Dwight "I told you to wait! For all we know, he could be telling em everything! Negan could be on his way here right now!" Daryl yelled "he isn't. He won't. He lead them away. They were coming right for us, and he saved us." Tara shared "she's right. He did. I saw it." Rosita shared "I don't give a damn what he did. He can stick with them, he can come back..hell, he can run. When I find that son of a bitch, I'm gonna.." Daryl was saying "Daryl!" Carl voiced, as Daryl looked at him and then to Judith who's ears Tobin was covering "come on." Daryl told them, as he turned heading back toward's the swamp, they all followed him through the path.

They then made it to the hilltop, as the gates opened for them, as Carol came running over, Enid came running up and hugged Carl, Carl hugged her back, as Maggie came walking up, they all began moving further inside.
