Chapter 145

Wayne Memorial Hospital — Room 001

The world returned to Miexha in fragments.

First, the sound — a slow, rhythmic beep... beep... beep...

And then the pain.

It lingered in her bones... as if her body had walked across centuries before collapsing into this fragile moment.

Her fingers twitched against the stiff hospital sheets.

Her eyelids fluttered.

Light spilled in.

She was lying in a hospital bed.

The ceiling above her was white, too white... almost unreal.

For a moment, she did not remember how to breathe.

Then she heard it—
soft crying.

Her gaze drifted to the side.

Sarah Wayne sat beside her, clutching her hand so tightly.

Tears fell endlessly down her cheeks, as if she had been crying for hours... perhaps days.

"My child..." Sarah whispered, voice breaking into pieces.
"You came back... you came back to me..."

Her grip trembled, afraid that the warmth in Miexha's skin might vanish if she loosened even slightly.

Miexha's lips parted.

Her voice barely existed.

"Ma... Ma..."

The word escaped like something fragile, newly born.

Sarah gasped softly, pressing trembling fingers to her daughter's cheek, as though memorizing every inch of her face.

"Miexha... stay with me... please... just stay alive..."

Her tears fell freely now, soaking into the hospital blanket, into Miexha's hair, into every quiet space between them.

Miexha blinked slowly.

Her lashes brushed against her mother's tears.

Her voice was distant... confused.

"Ma...? Why are you crying...?"

Sarah forced a smile, brushing stray strands of hair from Miexha's forehead.

"Nothing, sweetheart... You just scared me, that's all..."

But the tremor in her voice betrayed everything.

Miexha's brow furrowed faintly.

Her gaze wandered across the unfamiliar room.

Something about the silence felt... incomplete.

"What... happened...?"
Her eyes dimmed with effort.
"The trip... Silver Island..."

The name echoed strangely in her chest.

"I... I remember... talking to Riel... and then..."

Just darkness.

Sarah's heart clenched violently.

The truth rose to her lips like poison.

But she swallowed it.

"You collapsed," she said softly, carefully weaving the lie like fragile silk.

"You hit your head... the doctors said you might have... some memory loss."
