Chapter 152
Jayson slowly stood from the edge of the bed.
He tried to steady himself, but the weight in his chest made even breathing feel difficult.
"You... you rest," he said quietly.
His voice trembled despite his effort to remain composed.
"Focus on getting better."
Carefully, he loosened Miexha's hold on him.
For a brief moment, his gaze lingered on her hand.
He almost lifted it to pressed a kiss upon her knuckles-
but stopped himself.
Instead, he gently placed her hands back at her sides, as if afraid even that small gesture might make leaving harder.
He reached forward and wiped the tears from her cheeks with tender care.
"It's okay," he murmured softly.
"I'm fine."
"You don't need to worry about me."
He leaned down and pressed a soft kiss to her forehead.
A quiet goodbye.
Then he turned away.
Each step toward the door felt heavier than the last.
"J... Jayson..."
Miexha called weakly.
Her voice trembled.
But he did not turn back.
If he did-
he might not be able to leave at all.
He opened the door.
Jane was already waiting outside.
The moment Jayson saw his mother-
the composure he had fought so hard to maintain finally shattered.
Jane immediately pulled him into her embrace.
His shoulders shook as he buried his face against her.
"Why...?" he whispered brokenly.
"Why am I never enough?"
His voice cracked.
"Why am I always the second choice?"
"Is it really that hard... to love someone like me?"
Jane held him tighter, her hand gently stroking his hair.
"My son," she said softly,
"you are one of the most lovable people in this world."
"You are honest."
"You are kind."
"And you love sincerely."
She pulled back just enough to wipe the tears from his face.
"Someday, someone will cherish that."
"For now..."
She gave him a reassuring smile.
"Focus on your studies."
"Focus on your dream."
"You wanted to become a technologist who builds a better future, remember?"
Her eyes shone with quiet pride.
"I believe you will create something remarkable."
"Something that helps many people."
Jayson hugged her tightly again.
His mother's embrace felt like the only safe place left.
She had always understood him better than anyone.
