Chapter 147
The hallway grew quieter the farther Maria walked.
When she reached Margery’s door, her expression changed.
Her gentle demeanor dissolved into something colder.
Her face shifted.
Bones subtly rearrange beneath flawless illusion magic.
Within seconds, Maria no longer stood there.
Anita did.
She opened the door.
Margery sat on the floor in the far corner of her room.
The space was unnaturally white.
White walls.
White curtains.
White cabinet.
White table.
One bed is placed precisely in the center of the room.
No decorations or personal belongings.
Only a single medical book rested neatly on the table — untouched.
Margery looked small in the empty space.
Her eyes widened when she saw Anita.
“M-Mother…”
She quickly lowered her gaze, trembling.
“I’m sorry… I didn’t mean to be careless…”
Her voice shook as if expecting punishment before it was even spoken.
Anita’s expression remained indifferent.
“Your stepfather has summoned you to his study,” she said calmly.
Her tone held no warmth.
Only purpose.
“It is time for you to fulfill your role.”
Margery’s fingers curled tightly against her skirt.
“If you fail again,” Anita continued quietly,
“you will die.”
The words landed without emotion.
“Kill the Alpha Wolf.”
Silence consumed the room.
Then Anita turned and left.
The illusion dissolved as she walked down the corridor, Maria’s appearance returning seamlessly.
Inside the white room, Margery remained frozen.
Then her composure broke.
Tears spilled silently down her face.
Her shoulders trembled as quiet sobs escaped her throat.
She feared death.
Yet death followed her everywhere.
For years, she had obeyed her mother’s commands.
Ending the lives of innocent hybrids.
Watching light fade from eyes that did not deserve darkness.
Each order carved something out of her soul.
And now…
she was asked to kill the man who had never treated her as anything less than his own daughter.
Zaren Wov.
The only father she had ever truly known.
Her chest tightened painfully.
“I can’t…” she whispered weakly.
Her fingers pressed against her eyes as tears fell endlessly.
She did not want to kill him.
She did not want to betray him.
