Chapter 126
Wayne Memorial Room 001
The room was dim.
Curtains drawn.
Light softened into a quiet gray.
Miexha lay motionless on the bed, her small frame swallowed by white sheets. The steady hum of the machines filled the silence.
Sarah sat beside her.
One hand held Miexha's.
The other brushed gently through her hair.
Her face was calm.
The eyes of a queen who was never meant to feel.
And yet—
Something inside her ached.
"I already knew what the future held..." Sarah whispered.
"And still... I chose this."
Her fingers paused briefly against Miexha's forehead.
"I wanted a child," she continued softly.
"I thought... if I could create life... it would fill what the curse took from me."
Her voice cracked.
"But I never thought of the burden you would carry because of that choice."
The air trembled slightly, reacting to her restrained power.
"Perhaps this is my punishment," she murmured.
"To long for something I was never meant to keep."
Her gaze lowered.
"A child too fragile to survive the blood she was born from..."
"Enough."
The voice came from the shadows.
Low.
Commanding.
Sarah didn't turn.
She already knew who it was.
From the corner of the room, Damian Duke stepped forward—his presence quiet, but absolute.
His eyes glowed faintly, green.
"You have what you desired," he said.
"Regret will not change what comes next."
Sarah's fingers tightened slightly around Miexha's hand.
"Regret?" she echoed softly
Now she looked at him.
"I have never regretted her."
Something real cracked through her composure.
"Not for a single moment."
Damian's expression didn't waver. He moved closer, the air pulsing with invisible power as his tentacles retracted beneath his coat.
"Miexha is not ordinary," he said quietly.
"She carries a fragment of the Core."
"Our mother's power," he continued.
"If she survives the awakening... she will surpass all of us."
"Surpass even... Marie?"
Sarah's breath caught.
"...You're certain?"
"Yes," Damian affirmed.
"The Core grants more than power. It touches the threads of fate itself."
His gaze flickered toward Miexha.
"And the Sin of Pride... will answer to her."
"If she learns control," Damian continued,
"She will not simply survive."
A beat.
"She will change what is meant to happen."
Sarah looked away, her voice quieter now.
"...The prophecy."
"The one who ends the war," she whispered.
"And ushers in a new dawn..."
Her gaze returned to her daughter.
"...only if she lives."
Without another word—
Damian knelt beside the bed.
"Then let me give her that chance."
He drew a thin line across his wrist.
Blue blood welled up—luminous, glowing like liquid starlight.
