I awoke to yet another nightmare. Big surprise, right? This time, the demon that visited me was one with black eyes and a Joker Smile - his skin grey and his fingers long - luring me into the dark hallway to finish whatever it was here to start. Ever since I killed my sperm donor (because I will never call him my father), my nightmares and paranoia got way worse. I truly believe he got his wish by igniting a curse on me, because why else would I be having these nightmares of different scenarios since he died?!

My heart ached when I realized that Zak didn't wake up like he normally did - he was exhausted and was still merely snoring while I was still panting for air. God, the horrible toll I put on this poor man.

I moved off the bed to go to the bathroom to freshen myself up, looking at my miserable reflection before I decided to do the one thing that I knew Zak would hate: go out on Sunset Strip with Avery.

I needed to fill the void and forget about this nightmare so I could crash out even harder and sleep through it, and I needed more than just weed and alcohol - I wanted to try one of those Lemmons she told me about, and I knew she had one.

Once I had slipped on my favorite leopard print coat, I moved to kneel on Zak's side of the bed, pressing a firm kiss to his cheek that left a print of my lipstick behind, "I love you so fucking much, baby. You deserve so much better. I'll be back soon, I promise."

He didn't move. He was in a deep sleep, and he certainly deserved it.

Especially after all the shit I was putting him through, and I acknowledge the fact that I'm not only stupid for relying on drugs, but I was also selfish.

What kind of person have I become?

Forcing myself to not overthink it and cry my eyes out, I met Avery in the lobby. "Ready to get fucked up?" she smirked. "Looks like you had another nightmare again."

"Yeah," I sighed. "I can't remember the last time I slept a full night."

"What did Zak say when you told him you were leaving for the night?"

"He didn't say anything. He's out like a light."

"Well, we should hurry and get back before he wakes up. Last thing I need is for him to cuss at me for getting you high while he was asleep."

"He wouldn't do that."

She scoffed, "Tori. That man hates the fact that you're doing this. Anybody else would've left your ass a long time ago. He's only tolerating me because of you."

"I guess you're right," I sighed. "I've never done drugs before, and it's the only thing I've done that clears my mind of all the shit going on in there. I've tried everything else and nothing ever worked."

"You do things for yourself, not anybody else. Do what helps you."

Once we got to the bar, there were only a handful of people there when we walked in. For starters, we ordered beer and whiskey before we lit cigarettes, Avery looking around the bar for the "hole-in-the-wall" where she knew we could get away with doing something stronger than weed and alcohol. California was growing to be one of my favorite states since it seemed rather easy to do drugs in designated areas.
