I was so excited to be going to our new location. It was in my home state, and I would be lying if I said I wasn't terrified due to this snowstorm that hit overnight. Zak drove at a slow pace, focusing hard on the road in front of him while I stayed quiet and as calm as I could in the passenger seat. I knew he was nervous to be driving in these conditions, and I knew I wouldn't make the situation better if I made it known that I was actually scared to be on the road in these conditions.
"You alright, sweetie?" he asked from the driver's seat, now relaxing as the road became clearer as the snowfall slowed down. Judging by the GPS on his phone, we were less than a half hour away from our hotel.
"I will be once we get to the hotel," I sighed, adjusting the blanket I had lying over my lap. "I can't remember the last time I got this anxious just driving to a location."
"You and me both," he sighed. "we'll be there soon. Are you nervous about investigating again? It's been a few months since you've actually investigated with us."
"Not really nervous. Anxious? Absolutely, but I know that everything will be fine as long as you're with me." I grinned, seeing Zak reach over to grasp my left hand, pulling it up to his lips as he pressed a kiss to my knuckles, keeping my hand warm in his while his thumb traced over the bulge of my wedding ring on my finger - something I noticed he always did every time we held hands. Even before we got engaged, he always ran his thumb over my ring finger as if he had been manifesting our engagement since we got together in the first place.
"You know I'll never let anything happen to you, sweetie. I hope you know that so many fans have been hoping to see you on the show for the past year."
"Really? I didn't think anybody cared." I giggled.
"Oh, they care. Every time we'd meet fans on the street and you weren't with us, you were the first question they would ask about. I've seen so many comments on my posts asking about when you'll appear on the show."
"I feel bad that there were a lot of times I wouldn't even show up," I frowned. "I feel like the last few years, our lives have been so busy that we didn't spend much time together at all, and I'm glad I changed that."
"Sweetie, you were doing what you love and you still do that. You're always doing something and I'll never hold that against you. Just because we're married doesn't mean we need to put our passions on hold just to make the other happy."
"I know, but that's why after the NFR, I retired Arson and just focused on working cows with Hollie, doing some futurities, and traveling occasionally. I don't ever want to go another year where I only saw my own husband for a couple of months."
"Believe me, I hated it, but I knew you were doing what you loved and we ended up seeing each other eventually."
"Well, it won't happen again. As much as I love rodeo, I love you more."
