Quitting cold turkey was the hardest thing I had done in a long time, and I was so grateful that it worked. I felt like I was getting a fresh start to something I felt like I didn't deserve. Zak lay next to me in our bed as we were both excited to watch the remake of Andy Muschietti. The trailer looked so good and the reviews we saw about it looked even better. Zak hated clowns, but he knew that this was a fictional movie that couldn't physically affect him, and it was likely that he wasn't going to actually be scared by this movie.
While his fans were going to watch the premiere of the newest episode of Ghost Adventures dedicated to the lockdown of his museum, we were making a new tradition to celebrate our favorite holiday: Halloween.
Last year and the years before that, we always did something different such as a haunted hayride, pumpkin patch, or going to a get-together party at one of his friend's house.
While those ideas were great and held a lot of memories, Zak and I were both introverted by nature and liked to avoid large crowds. We still went to a haunted house a couple of weeks before Halloween and a party, but we wanted to do something truly together to fit our introverted habits.
So, for this year, we made sure to buy the new IT movie on digital, make an entire box of those amazing Pillsbury Halloween cookies, pop two bags of popcorn, and get our favorite soda in a two-liter bottle to share.
Oh, and did I mention that we wore matching pajama pants and socks? Why not?
He obviously didn't have a problem with it.
The horses were "tucked in" for the night, eating some good alfalfa I bought from a farmer in Idaho that shipped it down to me, Gracie was chewing on one of her favorite filled bones on her extra fluffy bed on the floor on Zak's side of the bed, and I had made an entire tray dedicated to all of our junk food that we were sure to get rid of tonight. Zak was always really strict on what he ate, but on special occasions (pretty much with me when I wanted to rot away in bed on a holiday), he would eat junk food. He always said he regretted it afterwards, but it was worth it.
Honestly, he seemed more excited about it than me!
"You ready, sweetie?" he asked after he had sat down on the bed after turning the bedroom light off with only a lamp beaming enough light just to see each other and what we were doing.
"Ready as ever! Can you start this movie so I can start pigging out, please?" I giggled.
"No, I think I'll keep teasing you and have it all for myself."
"You wouldn't dare!"
He raised his brows playfully, "You're crazy if you think I couldn't eat all of this in one sitting."
"Oh, I'm sure you could, but you'll regret it like you always do."
"It's worth it," he smirked, leaning over to press a kiss to my forehead. God, he always smelled so good. I wanted to drown in whatever it was he smelled like. I couldn't describe exactly what it was, but I know it was a mix of his cologne, deodorant, and his natural scent.
Fuck, it made me think things I would be too embarrassed to speak aloud.
As we thought, the movie was amazing. Even giving me a few jump scares along the way. Zak was very impressed by how good it was, and it exceeded our expectations as most horror movies weren't as good as they predicted they would be.
It was well past eleven o'clock, and he seemed to be wide awake, willing to watch another movie if it came down to it, but he knew as well as I did that I was barely holding up as I was deeply comfortable in the bed having him alongside me. My stomach was full, my heart was swelled with happiness, and I felt loved and protected by the only man I trusted with my life.
"Tired, sweetie?" he whispered, leaning over my body in the bed as he had the empty bowls and plates on the tray, ready to take them downstairs to clean before he came up to bed.
"Mhm," I yawned, keeping my eyes closed as I embraced the warmth of his hand brushing my hair away from my face.
"I'm going to take these downstairs," he whispered. "I'll come to bed right after."
"Okay. I'm not planning on going anywhere."
He chuckled, "That much is obvious."
He then pressed a kiss to my hairline before proceeding to go downstairs, and before I knew it, I was out like a light.
