Though Tori and I have spent a few Christmas' together already, I was particularly excited about this one. This was going to be the first Christmas we would spend as a family - everyone piled into the same house on Christmas Eve and all day on Christmas, with all of the fun games and things I remembered from my childhood that I knew Tori probably had a vague experience with when she was with her foster parents.
Which brings me to another thing, which was one of my many gifts I was going to give her, and I couldn't wait to see the look of surprise on her face. I was surprised I was actually able to pull it off in such a short period of time.
See, I would tell you, the reader, but I don't want to ruin the surprise - I want you to be just as surprised.
I watched as Tori struggled to position her new bouquet of flowers on the counter like she did every time I got her flowers, and it was the cutest thing she did. No matter how many times she moved the vase or turned it a certain way, it still looked the same, but she saw something with every shift of the vase that I didn't, and it was mesmerizing to watch. Every day, I kept wondering how and when the best time it would be for me to propose, and I hated myself that I didn't do it much sooner, but with everything she had been through already, I didn't want to put more stress on her.
"Find a perfect spot for it yet?" I chuckled at her, watching her from the couch as she was now standing afar from the flowers before she took out her phone to take a picture of them.
I always loved when she did that. I knew she always appreciated them, but she treats them as if it were her first time getting flowers.
It was a beautiful sight to see every time, and my heart always swells with love.
"Yes, I did babe," she giggled before setting her phone down on the counter and walking towards me, straddling my lap as she took my hat off, pushing my hair back with her fingers. "Thank you for the flowers. They make me so happy."
I chuckled as she rewarded me with a kiss, "You're welcome, sweetie. Excited about today?"
"Yes," she hummed against my lips. "I'm nervous, though. I've only met your sister once, and this is the first time I'll be meeting your niece and nephew, and I get really nervous around kids."
"Why?"
"Because I'm afraid of not saying something right around them like accidentally cussing or something."
I chuckled, "You'll be fine, sweetie. You'll love them, and they're very excited to meet you."
"Really?"
"Oh, yes," I nodded. I wasn't lying. Every time I talked to them on the phone, all they wanted to know was if Christmas plans were still on because they really wanted to meet her. "Trust me, you're going to be perfect."
