N I N E T Y - E I G H T

"Hi." I said softly as my wolf gave me back full control not sensing a threat, she just stared at me. "What is your name?"

"Ruby." She blurted out, she seemed panicked.

"Hi Ruby, my name is Grace, this is Alpha Gabriel." I explained and her eyes darted to Gabriel, I could hear her heart kick up a notch. "I have some questions for you and I would like some answers."

Her eyes were still locked on Gabriel, I squeezed her hand and her eyes flicked to her hand before coming to my face again. She gave a little nod and her heart started to slow, I watched her eyes fade to a dark burgundy color, her muscles relaxed into the bed as her wolf gave her control.

"Ruby, how old are you?"

"I just turned ten." She whispered.

"So you changed a little early?" I asked, we usually get our wolf around twelve and can meet our mate at sixteen but she shook her head.

"My wolf came when I was eight." She said quietly.

"Ruby where are your parents?"

"They were killed two years ago, my wolf came to me that day." She sounded broken. "Wolves came to our pack, they were rounding up girls, my parents died trying to protect us. My wolf came and tried to save my little sister but they shot me with silver."

"I'm sorry that happened to you." I said genuinely and she nodded a little, her eyelids looked heavy. "Why were you here today with the others?" I asked and she looked at Gabriel then me.

"I didn't have a choice, I didn't want to be here, I shouldn't be here, we were commanded to come and find the Luna." Gabriel growled loudly scaring her and she started crying. "We were told we could be set free in exchange for her..." She sobbed.

"Who told you that?" Gabriel growled making her jump again, I rubbed my hand on his arm to calm him.

"Matthew, he makes us do things for him, they force feed us these pills that make us obey him, and if we don't take the pill or our body's start to shut down. An older girl said our wolves get addicted to whatever it is and they can't function without it. He turned himself into our Alpha with them. I can't go back there, but my sister is still there." She sobbed again, her whole body was shaking with fear.

Baby, we need to find out what is going on.  I linked turning to look at him, he just nodded once.  She is terrified, it breaks my heart.

I could feel tears threatening to spill over and tried blinking them away. Gabriel's hand came to my face and he brushed my cheek with his thumb. He rubbed it back and forth a few times until my composure was back. I turned back to Ruby, she was watching me tears streaming down her face.

"You're this packs Luna, aren't you?" She whispered and I nodded. "I'm sorry." She choked out.

"Ruby, if what you say is true you have nothing to be sorry for. We need to figure out what is going on and we will have more questions for you. I'm going to bring the doctor in and she will examine you first and I will be back soon, okay?" I asked and her eyes went wide as she looked around the room uneasy. "It will be fine, Dr. Kate was in here cleaning you up and getting you better already, she will want to check your progress now that you are awake. I promise I will be back in shortly." I said and she calmed.

"Okay." She whispered and I stood.

I squeezed her hand before letting it go, I grabbed Gabriel's hand and pulled him out the door. Once the door closed he pulled me into a hug and brushed his hand over my hair, he could definitely feel my anger and sadness at the situation. She was a young child who had her world ripped from her and forced into a life that no child should be. Sending a child to a warrior pack expecting them to do a job that would be impossible...
