Two days had passed and I was restless. I did everything I could to keep myself busy, I felt uneasy without Gabriel here. Things were quiet, I had finished all the work that could be done. I helped the wolves in the garden digging up potatoes, I weeded flower beds, baked cookies with the pups, made bread and muffins for breakfast. I wasn't sleeping, something was nagging at the back of my mind and my wolf and I couldn't figure it out.
"Cammy I should be there, I don't know if it is intuition or what's going on but something is wrong." I complained into the phone, plopping into my office chair.
"I know Gracie, this whole situation is weird, clearly you were being watched, the fact that they came your first day back, they knew you were home. Have you heard anything from Gabriel?"
"Nothing since a few hours ago, they are a couple hours away from Denga City, they are going to grab a couple hours sleep and send two wolves in on recon tonight. They are hoping if they can get in during the middle of the night when most are sleeping it will be best." I explained.
"Yes Cho filled me in too, I'll keep in touch Gracie, I have faith in the men, I will be awake until I hear everything is done."
"Me too Cam, I love you."
"Love you Gracie."
I tossed my phone on the desk and leaned back closing my eyes, it was happening, twelve hours or so from now they will be all heading in. Then I realized something and got up and took off running the medical bay to look for the doctor. I found her talking to a guard and ran up to her, she looked panicked looking me over.
"Luna, what's wrong, are you okay?"
"I'm fine, I'm fine, did you run lab work on Ruby's blood to find out what pills she was given?" I asked quickly.
"I couldn't determine what it was but have sent it off to see along with a newer sample to compare. I haven't really checked my emails lately." She said chuckling nervously. "We can go see if anything has come back if you'd like? Was there something you were looking for?"
"I'm no doctor so wouldn't really know what to make of the lab work results but Ruby did mention she heard that their wolves became addicted to this stuff and they would start to shut down without it...When she came in she wasn't healing until she was given my blood. I need to know what that pill was and how to counteract it if all these girls have been talking it. I don't have enough blood for them all...She seems fine now so I guess I need to know if it was my blood that helped or if they were told lies and they will all be fine." I explained and she nodded as we walked to her little office.
"That certainly is a good question." She said to herself sitting down, she scanned through her emails. "It looks like they got back to me just this morning, let's see if they found anything out."
I watched as she scanned through the email and her face fell a little the longer she read it. She started tapping her fingers on the desk as she scrolled down the page, I looked as she was opening up the lab analysis comparing the blood samples taken before and after the transfusion.
"Well it looks like we have some bad news and somewhat good news...They can't figure out what that pill was, they have never seen numbers like this in a blood sample of a relatively healthy wolf. They have tested a few chemicals to try and neutralize the odd toxins but have been unsuccessful, even using the second sample. It seems your blood has overwritten that chemical compound but they can't synthetically replicate it." She said slowly as she read the email again.
"So my blood is what helped then." She nodded slowly. "I have a few calls to make, it won't be the most ideal circumstances but I have blood frozen that I used to research when we created ointments for the animals. It may do in a pinch...please get some bags ready, so I can donate, take as much as you can from me."
