My Place by the Sea

Seagulls bob across the lowly waves

A treacherous place where sailors met their graves

And young men had their first closest shaves

Mussels and limpets hold fast against the rocks

Clinging for dear life despite the knocks

Fishermen tell tides like we read clocks

Seahorses ride and smash into the cliffs

Children paddle, warned about the rifts

A waitress tans herself between her shifts

A child knocks a blow up ball from father's hand

And plummets his sisters ice cream to the sand

Sniggers replace what usually ends in reprimand

Shops sell sea shore shells and sweets

Ice cream, fudge and lots of other treats

Just the thing you need in summer heats

A little way along the winding cliff track

An old church built a thousand years back

We sit and watch the view with a sandy snack

In the distance, screams and yells from girls and boys

As rocks are turned red eyed crabs run out annoyed

Some run in panic but others frozen poised

It doesn't matter where in the world you'll be

There's one place that doesn't delve in misery

That's my happy place beside the sea
