What Do Animals Know Of God?
By PJ Perry
A goat passed me by without a care
And wandered by the sentries
A little patch it ate till bare
Where my people hadn’t been in centuries
What do animals know of God?
They wander where they please
Is it only me that thinks it’s odd?
It’s the same power that sinks us to our knees
I stood in awe of the greener grass
On the other side of the border
I wished that imaginary line I could pass
But I would have been shot on order
I’m like them and them like me
They love, they laugh and they go to work
They’re living life with family
But when they look at me they smirk
The goat got a smile as it wandered by
Respected with a pat
A tear welled up upon my eye
I’d never be given the welcome mat
I took that goat, looked in its eyes
Then killed it for its meat
I prayed to God that I’d be wise
Contempt was now complete
