The Rebound

by PJ Perry

You lay under me

To get over him

What was I thinking?

But in my mind

I was blind

I refused to see

I slipped up

I fell for you

Head over heels and all

Now you cry under me

Wishing I was he

That really hurt

Yet I confessed

I was used

Left hiding the bruise

I was a stepping stone

A rock left alone

What a bloody mess

I was your rebound

Now you’re back together

Happier than ever

It will never last

The truth of our past

Is certain to be found

When that times comes

Will you find me?

Set me free?

Will you go to someone else?

And leave me on the shelf

Or find me and succumb

Until then I await a decision

Let the one be me

This ship won’t leave the quay

If the only way

Is to be with you for just one day

I’m here for that collision
