Chapter Eight

I had made a big mess of things. Tara wasn’t looking at me, and I doubted Blake would too. I knew I shouldn’t have said anything, but I couldn’t help myself... he was pissing me off and it just slipped out. Although I had managed to make Tara my worst enemy, I felt like what I did was right, which was the worst of it. I thought Blake had to know, but he shouldn’t know over me breaking my trust with Tara.

“We need to talk... now.”

I spun around on the spot at the sound of Tara’s voice and was surprised to see Blake standing next to her.

“I-,” I started to say.

“I’m not going to yell at you, I promise,” Tara said.

“Why don’t I believe you?” I asked softly.

“Because last night I threatened to kill you,” Tara reminded me.

“Ar, yes, that would be why,” I muttered.

“Look... we want to thank you,” Blake said.

I watched him slowly as he put his arm around Tara’s waist and she moved slightly closer to him. I raised my eyebrows and then was quite aware I had a disgusted looked on my face.

“I thought you’d be happy for us,” Tara said.

“No...No, I am.  I’m happy you two are back together, I’m just... surprised,” I said. “Yesterday you two were down each other’s throats.”

“Well, Zeke got us-,” Blake started to explain.

“Wait, hold up,” I interrupted. “Did you just say Zeke?”

“Yeah... he came and talked to us and helped us work out everything,” Tara shrugged.

I felt anger boil up inside me.

“I’ll be back,” I muttered, walking around Tara and Blake.

“Alex,” I heard Tara complain.

I had no idea where Zeke was, but I just kept walking at my extremely fast pace till I found him. He was talking to Kassidy and Harriet... great.

“Hey, Alex,” Harriet said looking up at me.

I barely even looked at her, I was too mad. Instead I turned to Zeke and sighed slightly.

“We need to talk,” I told him.

“Finally,” he muttered.

“No... we’re not talking about what you think we are... so don’t even start with me,” I said.

“Fine,” he said, standing up and following me away from Harriet and Kassidy.

We stood there for a moment, me fuming.... I was now trying to control myself so I wouldn’t kill him.

“Well... what?” Zeke asked.

“Why are you getting involved?” I asked.

“Involved in what?” he frowned.

“My life! You were there the other day when I was... well you know what... and then you try help Blake and Tara. I don’t want your help... I don’t want you to get involved in my life,” I said angrily.

“Alex, I am already involved in your life, nothing can change that,” Zeke told me calmly.

“Yes it can. If you stop trying to get involved. Up until now we were two separate people,” I reminded him.

“We were never separate. You broke up with me for no reason, and while I don’t have a reason we’re still connected,” he complained.

I groaned. “Don’t give me any connected crap... do I need to remind you, that you said you loved me but I never said it back. Maybe there’s a reason for that?”

That hurt him. I saw it; he backed away from me slightly.

“So, that’s why you broke up with me?” he asked.

“We’re not talking about this anymore. Stay out of my life okay?” I told him calmly.

“Fine... I won’t interfere with your problems anymore,” he said softly.

“Thank you,” I sighed slightly.

“I’m not giving up,” he told me, as I tried to walk away.

“Well you should,” I told him. “I don’t give up easily.”

“Neither do I,” he said slyly.

Zeke’s P.O.V

Once Alex had walked away I went back over to the table and sat across from Harriet and next to Kassidy. I didn’t say anything as I picked back up my pen and started to continue writing what I had before I had been before.

“What happened?” Harriet asked.

“Nothing,” I muttered.

“Zeke,” Harriet sighed. “Come on; tell me, you know you can tell me.”

“She just said she never loved me, okay?” I said angrily, looking at her then sighing and looking back down to my book.

“Zeke,” Harriet said. “I’m so sorry. I thought she had said it back... after everything you two went through.”

“Well, she didn’t say it... and I never really had a problem with it... it was just the way she said that to me then,” I muttered. “She made it seem like she never felt something.”

“She felt something, Zeke... we all know she did,” Harriet tried to comfort me.

“Yeah, even I know it,” Kassidy said. “I mean, I know you two aren’t together anymore, but the way she acts... it’s clear something was there, or something was.”

“Well, not anymore,” I said. “She’s determined to have nothing to do with me.”

“Well, change that,” Harriet said.

I sighed slightly and put the pen down then looked up to face Harriet.

“You’re joking, right?” I asked.

“No,” Harriet shook her head. “You can change it.”

“How do you propose we do that? She won’t talk to any of us,” I pointed out.

“Yeah...” Harriet said slowly, “but she yells at you.”

“Okay, now I’m just confused,” I said.

“Think about it. She may not talk to any of us, but when she talks to you, she might yell at you, yes... but at least you get something out of her,” Harriet said.

“I get an insult... and ‘I’ve never loved you’ comment,” I said, slightly annoyed. “I highly doubt that’s going to do anything.”

“It is. We need to find out what’s going on with her... and whether it’s some stupid comment, at least it’s something,” Harriet pointed out.

“Okay.... I get what you’re saying, but how is that going to help anything?” I asked.

Harriet smiled. “I’m sure you’ll think of something.”

I knew that even right now if I didn't love her, that if I got over her, I’d still do anything to save her… bring her back to the way she used to be, just like I did. I wasn’t going to let her go, not unless I fix things.
