Chapter Fifty Three

“Where are we going, Zeke?” I complained with a whine, as Zeke held onto my hand dragging me along.

“You’ll see,” he simply told me again.

“But, my feet hurt, I need to stop walking,” I told him.

He sighed, stopped walking and turned around. “Do I have to carry you?”

“Maybe,” I said, bitting my lip.

He rolled his eyes, and walked towards me. He put his hand near mine and I was sure he was going to kiss me, but instead he suddenly swept me up in his arms and started carrying me along.

“Wow, you were serious.”

“Sure am.”

Turns out, I may not have needed to walk much further. I realised where we were too when he stopped at the dock. The same dock I had stood on after Zeke had punched Blake, the same one him and I ran up and down singing upon, and the same one I had sat with Blake while distressed about Zeke leaving.

“Why are we here?” I asked.

Zeke took my hand as we slowly walked down the dock. “I just wanted to talk.”

“About?” I frowned.

He turned to face me. “Everything.”

We stopped at the edge of the pier, and I leant on the rail, Zeke standing next to me.

“And what’s everything?” I asked him.

He sighed. “You haven’t talked much about, anything really since Tom woke up.”

It had been a couple of weeks since Tom had woken up, things had been good too. Claire was released and was going to have treatment for her cancer soon. Your father was released too and Jet told me he was spending a lot of time with his mum. It was really good.

“Everything is fine there though,” I said. “Tom will be released from hospital soon.”

“And we have exams,” Zeke reminded me. “And then... college.”

I sighed. “You want to have the England talk now?”

He just nodded to me and when I sighed, he took his hand in mine.

“I love you, Alex,” he told me, “and I want what’s best for you, and I know this is the last time you want, a distance thing again, but I thought of something else.”

“Something else?” I frowned.

“Yes,” Zeke said. “I want to come with you.”

“Wait, you want to what?” I frowned.

“I want to go with you,” Zeke repeated. “We can, get a place of our own, I can find a college that will take, drop-kick me, and we’ll live there for a couple of years.”

“But, you’re leaving so much behind, for so little,” I exclaimed.

“No, that’s where you’re wrong, Alex,” Zeke shock his head. “You’re going for a school that is worth leaving behind what you have here, and I’m going for you. The one person who makes me happy, that I need. My dad will do fine without me.”

“But, I can’t make you do that,” I whispered.

Zeke shook his head and turned towards me. He brought up his hands and placed them on my cheek to hold my head in his hands.

“I know you still struggle with it all, with everything, loving me, and the thought of now getting on with your life is....hard, but I want this, I really want this. I want to be with you, and there’s nothing wrong with the way it has to be, okay?” he whispered to me.
