Chapter Forty

“Alex, open the door!!!!!!! Why the hell is it locked?”

I sprang up and held my head slightly. Locked... my door is never looked. Hang on. I looked to my right to see Zeke awake, alert and naked. Great.

“Um, hang on!” I yelled back.

I jumped out of the bed and grabbed my clothes, I chucked on my clothes while throwing Zeke’s at him.

“Get in the wardrobe and don’t make a sound,” I told him.

“But-,” he started to argue.

“Do it!” I hissed.

“Fine,” he rolled his eyes, opening my wardrobe door.

“Oh, and Zeke?” I asked sweetly.

“What?” he asked turning back to me.

“Pants,” I said, throwing them at him.

Once I looked presentable enough to look like I had only been in a restless sleep, I opened the door to see Claire.

“You locked it,” she noted.

“I didn’t mean to,” I told her.

She rolled her eyes slightly but sighed. “Jet is downstairs, he wants to talk before you go to school, can you deal with that?”

“Yes... are you still pissed about me being late the other day?” I asked her as she started to walk away.

“You know it,” she answered.

She disappeared and I shut the door quickly, and then opened my wardrobe, to see Zeke half dressed.

“You have to go,” I told him.

“You’re going to make me climb out the window, aren’t you?” he guessed.

“I’m sorry,” I said, “but Jet’s down stairs.”

“Oh, you’re brother from another mother,” Zeke said.

“I... oh, yeah, I’ve never realised that before,” I said. “Hey, no distracting me. You need to go before someone finds you.”

“Fine, fine,” he muttered. I’ll see you at school.”

“Alright... I love you,” I told him.

He smiled and kissed me quickly. “Love you too.”

I went down stairs once Zeke was out the window and saw Jet standing in the door way.

“Hey,” I smiled at him. “What’s up?”

He gave me a look. “Maybe we shouldn’t have this conversation here.”

“Um... okay. Let’s go up to my room them,” I said slowly.

Jet followed me up the stairs to my room and only once inside my room did I realise that it was actually in a huge mess... and was that Zeke’s jumper on the floor?

“So... I heard about everything that happened,” Jet said awkwardly.

“Right... the whole Blake thing, right?” I guessed.

“Yeah,” he nodded, “and I’m not going to judge you or anything, because I don’t know all the before, but well... if you need me, I’m here.”

“My brother from another mother,” I muttered, with a smile.

Jet went to open his mouth but stopped realising that in fact was I said was right.

“Is that all you came to tell me?” I asked him.

“No,” he said immediately. “Um... it’s kind of... awkward to explain actually.”

“Jet, what is it? You’re kind of making me worry,” I told him.

He sighed and looked down before speaking. “Well... I was going to the hotel where mum’s staying, I’m staying there too, just a different room... anyway, I was going to talk to her and I have her spare key-card, so I can get in no problem, you know. And as I walk in there, she obviously hasn’t noticed I’ve come in, as she didn’t greet me like a normally do, and as I make my way into the room, I understand why she hasn’t noticed.”

“I’m confused,” I said.

“I... well, this is where it gets awkward, I kind of saw... your dad, and my mum... our parents, on the bed...” Jet was saying it all awkwardly, but I think I understood.

“Hooking-up?” I guessed. “Oh, please don’t say I’m right.”

Jet shrugged slightly but then nodded. “That’s... exactly what I saw.”

I was kind of shocked; I guess it was the last thing I expected. I sat down on my bed and then looked back up at Jet, also realising what time it was.

“Look, can I deal with this later? Not that this isn’t important, but I’m already dealing with some other stuff, and I don’t want to be late to school,” I said. “I’ll talk to my dad when he gets home from work okay?”

“Yeah, sure,” Jet nodded.

Harriet’s P.O.V

I’m past the point of being confused, if that’s even possible. I mean, everything kind of makes sense now with Alex and Zeke and all that drama, but what I don’t understand is that after a week of depression Florida, and now she’s been back for like a whole four days and she can’t stop smiling. See why I’m confused now? I have no idea what’s going on.

I stay leant against my locker and look down the hallway to see Zeke go to his locker. I watch him put a book in locker and then look down at his phone as he gets a text and then smiles at it. Is he possibly seeing someone? No... Kane would know, that means I would know too.

I blinked and in that second I did, I didn’t see Alex show up. She walked up to Zeke who smiled and then I saw Alex hand Zeke a jumper... his jumper. NO! Oh, come on... you’ve got to be joking. Alex smiled at him and then she walked down the hall in my direction until she reached me.

“Tell me I’m not that smart,” I said to her.

“What?” she asked confused.

“Please tell me that for the past couple of days you haven’t been sleeping with you ex... and before you give me a smart-ass answer, I don’t mean ‘sleeping’, I mean sleeping,” I told her harshly.

She didn’t answer and she leant next to me on the lockers and shrugged. That was my answer, but I knew that that meant.

“Alex!” I yelled at her.

“What?” she groaned slightly.

“He’s your ex! You’ve been crying about him all week... why the hell are you two ending up in bed all the time? Are you back together or something?” I asked her.

She bit her slip slightly but shook her head.

“Then what, if it’s not make up sex, what is it then?” I asked, still quite concerned.

“It’s... well... hate sex,” Alex said innocently.

“Hate sex? Alex, why can I not believe that?”I frowned.

“Because you know me... and well up until a while ago you thought I was innocent when it came to sex, but... I don’t know what happened, it’s harmless though,” she shrugged.

“Harmless? Alex, it’s not harmless, as long as you love him, and he loves you, something bad will happen,” I told her.

“You’re overreacting,” she told me plainly.

“Just promise me it’ll stop... I can’t see you get hurt again, okay?” I asked her slowly.

She paused but eventually nodded. I breathed and nodded to. I couldn’t let Alex go through everything, the pain, all of it again. She is my best friend and as much as I want to her be happy, I don’t think going back to Zeke will make her happy.
