Chapter Forty Seven
After sorting out my problems with Tara, it really got my head rolling. I didn’t get to think much while I was with Tara, which was just over a week (she was released, they’re not sure what happened, but she was fine now), but now I was back home, alone again, all I could do was think. How could I seriously give advice about something and be lying about the outcome? Obviously it’s pretty easy since all I have to do is open my mouth a let the words roll out.
The England thing was still only something Harriet and I knew. I hadn’t told anyone else because I honestly just didn’t want to. It didn’t mean my decision wasn’t made... I was going, not even Zeke could stop me this time.
I was kind of lying strangely on the couch and when my phone rang I almost fell of the couch. Why would anyone be calling me? My dad was currently at the airport picking up Claire and Pommy from their honeymoon. I decided not to go, I had homework to catch up on and studying after being away for so long, I needed any time to catch up.
I ran for my phone and saw it was an unknown caller but answered it anyway.... it was not what I expected it to be.
Harriet’s P.O.V
“Babe, don’t cry,” Kane whispered.
“What else do you want me to do?” I asked him kind of annoyed as he wrapped his arms around me. “I can’t believe this is happening.”
“Where’s Alex?” he asked.
“She’s on her way,” I whispered. “I don’t know how she’ll take this, she just sorted out this stuff with Tara. And England...”
“England?” Kane asked surprised.
“It’s a long story,” I shrugged slightly. “Don’t worry.’
“Well what about Zeke?” he asked.
“I... it’s a sensitive topic,” I admitted. “But it might work.”
“Harriet!”
I turned to see Alex running at full force toward me. I knew she hated hospitals, so my guess was she was handling it well... but I doubt it.
“What’s happened? Is everyone okay? How bad was the crash?” she questioned me.
I breathed and felt myself cry. I couldn’t say it out loud. I turned in Kane’s arms and put my head on his chest and cried a little while he did all the talking.
“Um, the crash is pretty bad.... it took them a while to get everyone out of the car. Claire is okay... just some stiches, bruises, bleeding, your dad is going to go into surgery soon, it’s pretty simple and he’ll most likely pull through,” Kane explained.
“And Pommy? Is Tom okay?” Alex breathed.
I felt Kane hesitate before he answered. “He’s not doing so good. He’s in a coma and they don’t know when he’ll wake up, or even if he will. His leg is broken too and they’re worried he might have.... brain damage.”
I cried into Kane’s chest but I could hear Alex behind me loosing it slightly.
“Where’s Claire?” she asked.
“In the room down the hall, three down,” Kane answered.
“She’s awake?” Alex confirmed.
“Yeah,” Kane nodded.
“She’s not very happy though,” I muttered, slightly lifting my head of Kane’s chest.
“What do you mean?” Alex asked confused.
“She told me to go away, that she didn’t want to see anyone... course she only said that once I told her about Tom,” Harriet muttered.
“Oh,” Alex whispered. “I’d better check she’s handling this well.”
I heard Alex’s footsteps as she started to walk away, but then stop quickly. Confused I looked around Kane to see Alex had stopped and slowly turned to me.
“Can you do me a favour?” she asked.
“Sure,” I nodded, sniffing.
“Can you call Zeke for me?” she said softly.
“Alex-,” I started to protest.
“Please,” she interrupted me, “just do this for me.”
“Okay,” I nodded.
Alex’s P.O.V
Once I was in the room, I leant against the door. It was like Tara all over again. I turned to look at Claire who was looking at me but not saying a word.
“Claire,” I whispered, stepping forward.
“Don’t,” she said immediately. “Have you heard anything about Tom?”
“No, I only just got here,” I explained.
She fought back her tears and sunk back into her bed.
I took the second to really see the scars across her face, the dry blood, and the how she had used her honey-blonde hair to try hide everything that she could. Her arm was bandaged, and there were needles in her wrist that lead to an IV. It was hard to see her like this again.
“What about Dad?” I asked.
“I... I haven’t heard anything either, but he hasn’t been in surgery yet, but I’ll wait for him to come back out,” I told her.
“Could you go see Tom for me?” she whispered.
“I... I don’t know if I can do that,” I admitted.
“I can’t, Alex. I’m not allowed out of this bed. He’s my husband, Alex, your brother, I need you to do this,” she said.
I took a second but eventually I nodded. I knew that right now I needed Zeke by my side. Screw it being perfect, screw it e complete bad timing. Without him I’m going to get nowhere. I needed him now.
