Chapter Nineteen

Alex’s P.O.V

“It’s not going to work,” I told Claire in a taunting voice.

“It is,” she told me harshly.

“No it’s not,” I sang.

“Alex, could you please go annoy someone else?!” Claire snapped at me.

“Okay, little miss controlling,” I muttered, walking out of the kitchen.

Claire had taken charge of the whole thanksgiving dinner family/friend thing. I may have been my dad’s idea, but Claire was always the one who like to organise things. She was trying to fit all the chairs into the dining table... and I was trying to tell her she couldn’t do it.

I followed the sound of noise until I found someone in the bathroom.

“You’re cleaning the bathroom,” I said to Pommy.

“Well, your sister can be very... controlling, and I decided it’s better to stay out of the way when she’s like that,” he said.

“When are you going to sleep with her?” I muttered, leaning against the wall.

“Why are you so persistent about me sleeping with your sister?” Pommy asked.

“Because if it was anyone else you both would not be taking it slow,” I said.

“Well, we’re not anyone else,” Pommy shrugged.

“But what if something happens?” I asked him.

“Like what?” he asked, but I could see he was barely listening to me.

“Like... if Claire’s cancer comes back,” I said quickly.

He dropped the toilet brush and sat down on the floor and turned to face me.

“We’ve talked about it,” he said.

“You’ve had a proper conversation about it or Claire made up your mind for you?” I asked him, sitting down too.

“Look, I love Claire, if she wants to wait, I’ll wait,” Pommy shrugged.

“You’re scared, right?” I guessed. “You’re scared about losing her?”

“When I came back, I was worried that she might die and never know how I felt. I mean, you know me Alex... Harriet I’m sure has told you how much of a player I was.... but when it came to Claire, something changed. I feel in love with her and when she broke up with me, to get away from it I went to England... then I forgot about her, but then Harriet called...” Pommy said.

“And you found out she was sick... I get it, but I still don’t think you should be taking it as slow as you two are,” I said to him. “What happens if you lose your chance?”

“I won’t lose my chance,” Pommy sighed, standing up. “It’s not like I don’t want, I’ll just wait for her.”

“You’re so pathetic,” I complained, standing up and walking out of the bathroom.

The house started to fill up with people. Harriet, Kane, Jet, Blake, Blake’s Dad, Zeke, Tessa (Zeke’s sister) and Zeke’s dad. There was also the people who lived in my house, so that made thirteen, on a table that was meant to fix six. I got put on the table with Harriet on one side of me, and Blake on the other. Zeke got put across me, something I had been dreading. He hadn’t spoken to me since Saturday, and since it was now Thursday, it was probably the longest we’d gone in a while for not seeing each other. I could tell today would be interesting.
