Chapter Twenty Two

Zeke’s P.O.V

“I can’t do this anymore,” I said, dropping my pen down.

Harriet, Kane and I were all in the library doing some very complicated homework that was going to take more than just home time to complete.

“It’s just English homework, Zeke,” Harriet said.

“I can’t stop thinking about other stuff that’s all,” I muttered.

“You saw Jet this morning too, right?” Harriet guessed. “It’s kind of freaky... I mean we all thought Alex and him might... you know, but he’s actually her brother. Plus it’s just weird for her to have a brother.”

“I always knew something was wrong with dude,” I said.

“There’s nothing wrong with dude,” Kane said. “He was just hiding a secret.”

“Yeah, “Harriet agreed. “Seriously, Zeke, what’s got up your ass?”

“He’s just like that because he hasn’t got laid for a while,” Kane said.

“Kane, man, seriously?” I asked him annoyed.

“Oh, come on, Zeke. I’ve never been able to joke around with you like that because I never thought you have slept with someone, but now that you have, well, it’s a whole different story,”

“Speaking of which, what exactly did happen between you two?” Harriet asked.

That made me smile. “Wouldn’t you like to know?”

“Yes I would actually... and Alex wouldn’t tell me,” she scowled.

“Well, then neither will I,” I said simply.

“Oh, come on,” Harriet complained.

I just smiled at her slightly. If Alex didn’t want to say anything about it that was her right, I wasn’t about to go blurt it out for her.

“You’ve got to tell me something,” she begged.

“I’m sorry... that details will stay private,” I shrugged.

“Tell me how many times at least... I’m desperate,” she said.

“Dude, you’ve made your girlfriend into a sex manic,” I said to Kane.

“I’m not a sex manic!” Harriet yelled maybe a bit too loud for a library. “I just want to know something.”

“Fine... we did it three times,” I said.

“Three, all in one night?” Harriet asked.

“You’re getting nothing more out of me,” I told her.

“Oh, come on, it’s not like you don’t know about Kane and I’s active sex life,” Harriet complained.

“Ew... gosh, mental image... too much information, leaving now,” I said, standing up and grabbing my books.

May not have been to the best conversation to have with Harriet, but that’s the type of person she was. She liked to know everything, and although everything was sometimes a little too much, she didn’t care.

“Watch it... oh.”

In the process of me telling of the person who had worked into me I realised it was Alex. I loosened up a bit and faced her.

“Sorry,” she whispered.

“Wasn’t your fault,” I shrugged.

“It looks like you just got pounded by Harriet,” Alex smiled slightly.

“If you mean she tried to get information out of me, then yes,” I nodded.

“You didn’t say anything, did you?” she asked slowly.

“No... no, um... only how many times, just to shut her up,” I shrugged.

“I guess that’s not so bad,” Alex whispered. “Even though we’re not the same way we used to be, I want you to know that that was the most amazing night of my life, and no other guy will ever change that, okay?”

“Yeah... and I shouldn’t have said that comment... I’m the reason we had that disastrous thanksgiving,” I said.

“I can’t believe Tara just announced it out like that,” Alex said. “Then Claire.”

“Then Jet,” I said.

“Right,” she nodded.

“You knew?” I guessed.

“He told me earlier... I’ve had some time to deal with it,” she shrugged. “It’s still crazy weird though.”

“Yeah, I mean that kid... was making me jealous.” Well... that just slipped out.

“Ha!” Alex said happily. “He was making you jealous, just like Kass-. Actually never mind.”

“You were just about to say like Kassidy. You were jealous!” I said happily.

“I wasn’t,” Alex said quickly.

“Fine, say what you want, but I’ll believe what I want,” I said happily.

“Don’t look like you’ve accomplished so much,” she said, kind of evilly.

“So... I see we have not so innocent Alex talking to her ex.”

Alex and I both turned around to see Austin standing beside us. I immediately felt anger flow through me, but Alex stayed strong.

“And that’s meant to mean?” she asked.

“Oh, you don’t think I don’t know? By now the whole school knows you aren’t this perfect innocent virgin you made yourself out to be, but that’s okay with me. You not being a virgin anymore just means it’s going to be more fun for me,” he shrugged.

“Touch her and you-,” I started to threaten.

“I know, I know,” Austin interrupted me, “I die. But that didn’t really work out for you last time, did it, Price?”

“Look, just lay off. This doesn’t change anything, I’m not sleeping with you, not over my dead body,” Alex said darkly.

“You’ll change your mind,” Austin said, touching her chin and she batted his hand away pretty harshly.

Austin gave bother Alex and I a look before he walked off. I saw Alex breath a little easier and I all I wanted to do then was hold her and tell that he couldn’t lay a finger on her ever again.

“Is it just me, or that dump he served his sentence in just made him even more of a creep?” Alex asked.

“He’s going to keep trying,” I muttered.

“Zeke, he won’t get me. How many times do I have to say it? The only way he’ll get me is if he practically rapes me, and he won’t do that because he’s on the parole. The moment he steps out of line he’s back in that hell hole,” Alex said.

“Man, I hope you’re right, Alex,” I shook my head slightly.

“I’m usually right, aren’t I?” she smiled slightly, but then stopped. “I’ve got to go.”

She didn’t give me time to respond and shot off before I could speak. I saw it then. One, she was kind of enjoying herself talking to me and the moment she realised that she obviously had to get away. I was still convinced that she had feelings for me, and the more I talked to her and spoke to her, the more I started to believe it. Now I just needed to hear it from her.
