Chapter Thirty Five

Alex’s P.O.V

I had been a whole week and Harriet and I were travelling back. Although my week did consist of nothing exciting, and my eighteenth birthday also being very boring, I still needed that week. Zeke needed that week more than I did though.

When Harriet pulled up to my house I got out of the car and frowned. Everyone I practically knew sat on the small brick fence outside my house.

“What is going on?” I asked Harriet.

She just shrugged at me.

I looked back over to the fence and saw Claire, Pommy, Cassie, Kane, Cassie, Mike, Jen, Jess and Jet. I saw Tara standing near the door and then to my surprise Zeke near the end of everyone.

I walked over to them and Claire jumped up first and hugged me.

“We’re going to talk about what happened later, “she whispered as everyone else came over, “but now.... well happy birthday.”

“My birthday was two days ago,” I sighed.

“We know,” Cassie smiled.

“But we weren’t there,” Jess said

“So it doesn’t count,” Jen nodded in agreement.

“And we all wanted to give you your present,” Kane said.

“No, I don’t want anything,” I said quickly.

“Well... too bad, because this year every single one of us chipped in and bought you one present,” Pommy said.

“One present?” I asked, with an eye brow raised.

Claire laughed at me and covered my eyes and then spun me around.

“Okay, just wait.... I’m going to walk you forward a bit,” Claire told me, slowly walking me forward.

“OW, Claire,” I complained.

“Sorry, rock,” she muttered. “Okay, ready?”

“Yes,” I said slowly.

Claire removed her hands and I now stood in front of a smallish red car, with a spoiler on top of the trunk. I stood there for a moment even noticed a small bow on top of car. I turned to look at Claire who was waiting for my reaction.

“So?” she asked me.

“This isn’t like last time, is it?” I asked her.

She smiled slightly. “No... and it couldn’t be if I wanted it to. All that money went to treatment, this was payed for by every one of your friends, but dad payed the most.”

“So... it’s legit? It’s mine?” I asked hopefully.

“Yep, and enjoy it, it’s the only eighteenth birthday present you’re getting,” she said.

“Thank you, all of you,” I said with a smile.

I said I’d test drive it later, I just wanted to unpack first, but walking into the house it became a convention.

“Kitchen, now,” Claire told me.

I sighed, but followed her to the kitchen and sat on the dining table across from my father. Claire sat next to him, a serious look on her face... great, this will be fun.

“We found out about what happened,” Claire said. “With... Blake”

“Tara?” I guessed.

“Yes,” my father nodded.

I couldn’t imagine how he could feel right now. His daughter had done one of the worst things imaginable.

“She’s not happy,” Claire muttered.

“Oh, I know she’s not, she’s already tried to attack me,” I explained.

Neither of them looked surprised, but it could tell it was news to them.

“We... we’re not going to yell at you, Alex,” my father said. “We’re not mad, I’m not mad... I’m just...”

“Disappointed?” I suggested. “I know I would be... and I kind of am.”

“We’re just worried now... Harriet told me that you’ve just been... crying,” Claire said.

I curled my lips together and nodded slightly. “I am upset... mainly because of how I made Zeke feel.”

“You can’t help that,” Claire said.

“If I just... didn’t get drunk that night... if I didn’t go home with Blake,” I said, through my teeth and tears started to leak out of my eyes, “if I just had some self-control... everything would be different.”

“It’s not about self-control, Alex,” Claire said. “Nothing was working right in your head that night.”

“I’m sorry,” I muttered, standing up. “I need to get out of here.”

“Where are you going?” Claire asked.

“I don’t know.”

Zeke’s P.O.V

I lay on top of my bed just staring at the ceiling. What else was I to do? I couldn’t help but think about Alex. Although what she had done was horrible, almost unforgivable, there was so much of me that just knew how easily something like this could happen.

It was like every time I thought about why she did it, my mind when back to Evelyn. I knew how easy it was to slip up, and even though I wasn’t with Alex at the time, I still kind of felt like I was cheating on her, especially if I claimed to still love her, and I definitely still love her.

My phone suddenly started to ring making me jump. I sat up, picked it up and saw it was Harriet. No shocker.

“Yeah,” I answered my phone grimly.

“Have you seen Alex?” Harriet asked in a puffed voice.

“No, why? What’s happened?” I asked her.

“Claire called, said that Alex left in her car about five hours ago now or something. They don’t know where she is, they can’t find her, and they’re worried something has happened,” Harriet explained.

“Where have they looked?” I asked.

“The normal places. You know, where she drinks, the dock... places like that,” Harriet said.

“And they’ve tried calling her?”

“Of course they have!” Harriet screamed at me over the phone. “It just goes straight to voicemail.”

“Okay, just calm down,” I told her.

“I can’t calm down, Zeke. She’s not  in the right state of mind right now. She could be anywhere, doing anything, she might need help,” Harriet muttered.

“Why did she just get up and leave anyway?” I asked.

“Claire said they were talking and she got upset. Something about feeling disappointed,” Harriet whispered.

“She... okay, hang on, I think I know where she is. I’m going to check and call you, okay?”

I didn’t actually wait for a response, I heard Harriet yell something as I hung up the phone. I sprang up and grabbed my keys and then ran to the front door, but then stopped. What I am I doing? I’m going after my ex who slept with someone else... she cheated on me. I guess though, I knew that wasn’t exactly true.
