Chapter Eleven

Alex’s P.O.V

Have you ever had that feeling you’re being watched? I couldn’t shake the feeling that no matter where I went someone was watching me. I felt like I couldn’t do anything with someone knowing about it, well at least Harriet knowing about it. Lately, in the last two days I mean, she’s been… well let’s just say it’s like she’s now attached to me. She does not leave me alone anymore, and where there is Harriet, there’s Kane. And don’t get me wrong, I love both of them, they are my friends, but them together is really annoying sometimes.

The only time I got away from them was at home, and even then it felt like my family was watching me. I sat in the kitchen today, bored out of my mind today. I was staring at the archway to the door when I suddenly someone walked in. I thought I recognised them, but… at the same time I couldn’t tell if it was them.

“Tara?” I asked, sitting up straight.

She turned around and smiled at me. “Yeah?”

“What?!” I almost laughed my head of. “What did you do?”

“What?” she asked, looking down at herself. “Is my baby bump already showing?”

“No…it’s you hair… it’s brown. There are no streaks; it’s just… one colour. And the nose ring… the heavy make-up, where the hell did it all go?” I asked her.

Her facial expression changed and she started playing with her hair. “I thought it was time for a change.”

“So you changed your whole appearance?” I questioned.

“I’m not her anymore,” she shrugged. “I’m not that rebellious Tara… I’m a lot more responsible now.”

“Because everyone will believe that,” I muttered.

“Okay, I know that’s hard to believe since I got pregnant, but that night I was upset… and we tried to be responsible, things just fell through,” she muttered, leaning against the bench.

“Does Claire know yet?”

“I was going to wait until your Dad got back.”

“Right,” I breathed. “I forgot that was tomorrow.”

“Mmm, you’re just as nervous about it as I am,” Tara muttered.

“I’m sure Claire told him about what I’ve been up to… that or he’s going to try and talk to me about Zeke,” I said plainly.

“You’d think everyone would’ve given up by now,” Tara said.

“You’d think,” I agreed. “Zeke warned me he wasn’t going to though.”

“Hey… I have a question, and don’t get angry at me about it,” Tara said immediately.

“I’ll try not to,” I told her.

“Jet… do you actually like him?”

“He’s a nice guy.”

“Alex… come on. I just want to know.”

I sighed. “He’s a nice friend… that’s it.”

“Then why do you make it look like it could be something more?” Tara said, narrowing her eyes.

“Because I know it makes Zeke jealous,” I said.

“Alex… that’s cruel, even for you,” Tara pointed out.

“He won’t stop annoying me, hassling me. Why don’t any of you realise that…”

The something happened that hadn’t in a while. My eyes started to sting, I felt like I couldn’t breath…

“Alex,” Tara whispered.

“I’m fine,” I sniffed.

Tara looked at me and studied my face for a second.

“What happened? Why are you so upset and angry over Zeke? Was it something he did?” Tara questioned.

“No,” I said immediately. “No… he knows that too.”

Tara narrowed her eyes again. ‘Why won’t you tell anyone? Why are you making us all think the worst?”

“You think I want everyone to think the worst of me?” I asked looking at her.

“Well-,” Tara started to say.

“I have to go,” I said, jumping up.

I heard Tara yell after me.

“Alex?”

“Hey, Blake,” I said as lightly as I could. “Sorry, can’t talk, got to go.”

Blake’s P.O.V

“Is everything okay with Alex?” I asked, walking into the kitchen, then stopping. “Wow.”

Tara frowned at me and gave me serious look. “You don’t hate it, do you?”

“I… no,” I shook my head. “It’s very…smart.”

She smiled and walked over to me, sliding her hands down my chest. “Thank you,” she whispered.

I grabbed her hands and kissed her head. “So… Alex?”

Tara shook her head slightly. “I don’t know… we started talking about stuff… and Zeke got pulled into the conversation, and she… she almost cried.”

“Alex, cry? She hasn’t cried since… since Zeke left,” I said.

“I know,” Tara nodded. “I tried to ask her more, but she just shut me out and then walked out. She insists there’s nothing wrong with her.”

“To bad we all know she’s lying,” I said.

”Mmm,” Tara agreed with a small nod and placed her head on me. “My uncle is coming home tomorrow.”

“Arr,” I said slowly.

“You will be here, right?” she asked, stepping back slightly.

“Of course,” I said grabbing her hand. “It’s just… Austin comes back tomorrow too.”

Tara bit her lip slightly.

“What?” I asked her.

“You know that I…. with him?” she whispered.

“Yes… I’m very aware about what happened… but like you said… that’s your past, you’re with me now,” I pointed out.

She nodded. “What about Alex? Alex isn’t afraid of much anymore, but when you brought up Austin, she kind of freaked out.”

“I know,” I nodded. “I’m worried about that to, but I have a feeling Austin won’t be able to get near her, what with all our patrols Zeke has set up. Everyone will be watching her.”

“Yeah, you’re right,” Tara nodded. “We won’t let anything happen to her.”

Tara let go of my hands and walked over to the bench and sat down. I followed and sat next to her and she sighed.

“Alex told me she was trying to make Zeke jealous,” Tara said eventually.

“Well, I hate to say it, but it’s working,” I said. “Are you going to tell Zeke?”

“I don’t know… I mean I know I should, but… I think Alex needs that,” she admitted.

“You know how crazy you sound right now, right?” I asked her.

“I know,” she laughed slightly. “I know it’s absolutely crazy, but it was like, she felt she was getting something out of it.”

“Getting something out of toying with her ex-boyfriend’s emotions?” I asked.

Tara laughed again. “Yes. It’s like a game to them… and Zeke may not have clued into how to play the game yet, but he will.”

“And you’re going to let them play some little game?” I asked slowly.

“It’s good for them. It helps Alex deal with some of her emotions, while Zeke gets more of a look of going on,” Tara shrugged. “But… if things get too complicated and they both just end up hurting each other, I’ll stop it, but for now… let the games begin.”
