Chapter Fifty

“Why do I get the feeling that you’re not telling me everything?” Zeke asked as he dumped his bag on the kitchen counter.

“Because he’s my father and I don’t have to tell you everything he said,” I told him as I searched through the cupboards. “Now, is there something you want for dinner?”

I didn’t get an answer from him, instead I felt his hands go around my waist and pull me away from the food.

Zeke’s lips brushed my neck, my cheek, my ear, and my head. I smiled and turned in his arms and faced him. I leant forward, wrapping my arms around his neck and started kissing him. His hands held onto the bottom of my hips, no willingness to let go, but I slowly pulled away.

“It’s good... to finally have it all out there,” he whispered.

I nodded. “No more lying.”

“Yeah, and you know-,” he started to say.

“Forget it,” I said quickly, slipping out of his grip. “You can try use, the ‘we’re back together thing,’ but even if you didn’t, I wouldn’t sleep with you tonight.”

“Oh, babe,” he complained.

I turned around to look at him, my eye brow raised.

“We’re back to the little name calling, are we? Babe,” I added.

He smiled and shrugged. “I always used to call you that.”

“I know,” I said smoothly. “It’s just... you’re jumping straight back into it, aren’t you?”

“Look... I know you said that things need to be different this time, but where we left off wasn’t that bad, it was just the stuff after that,” Zeke said.

“The long-distance stuff sucked though,” I muttered.

“Yeah,” he agreed.

I swallowed.... I knew what I had to do.

“That’s why I need to tell you something.”

He watched me for a second as I walked over to the dining table and picked up the letter. I watched back over to him and handed it to him. I waited for him to read it. His eyes slowly swept across the letter, and I felt myself get more anxious by the second.

“England?” he whispered.

“When I applied there was no us,” I said quickly. “I forgot about it completely, until I got it in the mail. But I don’t even know if I’m going yet.”

“Don’t know if you’re not going? Alex, are you insane?!” Zeke almost yelled at me. “This school... it’s amazing, to get it. You have to go.”

I sighed and shook my head. “Zeke, when I applied it was to get away, but it’s different now, there is so much I’m leaving.”

“You mean me, right?” he asked softly.

“You’re one of the reasons, but you’ll always be one of the reasons,” I said.

He sighed. “I don’t want me to influence your education.”

“Well what about you? Have you even thought about college?” I asked him.

He shrugged. “Dad reckons he can get me into Yale, I don’t really fancy that though... I was thinking either Columbia or NYU, I don’t know.”

“Nothing fancy then,” I muttered.

“No,” he shook his head.”But this... Alex, you can’t turn down.”
