Camille and I are cuddling on the couch while watching her favourite cartoon when the doorbell rings. She stays on the couch while I get up and go answer it. When I open the door I see Roman standing there with a bag of Chinese food in his hand. He smiles and says, "I figured that since this was your first night in your new apartment it was only fitting to bring over some dinner."
"Thanks! Why don't you come in and share it with us?"
"Us?"
"Right. You don't know I have a daughter. She's been in LA with her Dad but she just arrived here this morning and she'll be living with me from now on. My life has a single Mom has begun."
He nods and then enters the apartment. We go to the kitchen and dish up our food. He takes a seat at the table while I go get Camille. Once we're all seated she says, "Mommy, who's that?"
She points to Roman so I say, "Sweetie, don't forget that it's not nice to point."
She apologies and I say, "Thanks baby. Anyway, this is Sean. He works with Mommy."
She eats a bite of her food and then says, "So Sean's police officer?"
He nods and says, "I am. What's your name?"
She smiles and says, "Camille. Mommy picked it."
He smiles at her and says, "That's a beautiful name."
She smiles and thanks him and then I say, "I named her after my mom. When she passed away I told myself that if I ever had a daughter I'd name my daughter after her."
He nods and then we finish eating. After we do the dishes Camille pulls on my shirt and says, "Can we please go play at the park?"
"Sure. Go get your coat and shoes on, okay?"
She nods and runs to the front door. Roman decides to come with us so the 3 of us walk to the nearest park. He is quick to start playing with her so I take a seat on a bench nearby. As I watch them play I can't help but think that he'll be a great Dad someday and whoever he marries will be lucky to have him.
