"I told you that I need time to establish myself here! I won't let you bring her till I am!"
"How much more time do you need Laynie?"
"Book your tickets so you arrive in exactly 3 months and..."
I'm going to continue when Erin walks in. I quickly hang up and shove my phone in my pocket. She gives me a look so I just shrug and leave. That was too close. I don't need anyone knowing about my secret yet. 3 more months and then they can know.
I take a seat at my desk and start doing some work. A few minutes later Dad walks out of his office and says, "We just got a case. Suit up and head out."
We all rush downstairs and quickly throw on our vests. Antonio and I hop in our car and he quickly drives to the scene. When we arrive we start barricading the murder scene while the others begin interviewing the witnesses. As we're about to start our investigation I spot a suspicious guy standing at the front of the crowd. But he's not just a curious spectator. He's holding a knife covered in blood. I quickly glance at our victim and notice that he was stabbed. Of all of the mistakes the murderer could've made he decided to make the stupidest mistake of watching the cops clean up his mess. I point the guy out to Antonio and he says, "I'll go get him."
I put an arm across his chest and say, "I didn't point him out so you could go and get him. He'll surely under estimate me so I'LL go get him. I'll outrun him no problem. There is an advantage to still holding the sprinting records at the high school. Besides, he won't know what hit him."
He nods and I walk up to Olinsky. Then I say, "I need you to go and block off the alley exit to Kingsway."
He nods and goes to his car without question. Once he pulls away I walk towards our suspect. Once he figures out what's going on he starts running. I do the same and vault over the barrier when I get to it. The crowd parts for me and as I start closing in on our guy he turns down the alley I figured he would. We run and I end up capturing him when we're a few feet away from Olinsky. Once we have him in the back of the car we go back to the station.
The blood on his knife matches the victims so we won't bother to interview him till later. Once we've put our things away we go to our desks and begin our paperwork.
