We all hop out of our vehicles and make our way silently towards Ray's house. We unfortunately spent the majority of the morning gathering all of Ray's information so we knew exactly what we were dealing with when we went to make the arrest.

It turns out that Ray's wife divorced him a few months back under the claim he was exhibiting psychotic behaviours. He went to therapy but his wife wouldn't let him back into her life which we think may have set Ray off. And get this, his wife had red hair.

My thoughts are interrupted when I hear Jay break the lock off of the door. We all draw our guns and then head inside. Dad points at me and then the basement door, signalling that I'll be clearing the basement on my own. I nod and slowly make my way down the stairs, lit dimly by only a couple of windows.

When I make it to the bottom of the stairs I slowly begin making my way around the basement when I feel an arm wrap around my shoulders and the cold metal of a gun press against my temple. I hear the familiar click of a gun being loaded so I automatically put my hands in the air. I hear a sinister laugh and then Ray says, "I can't believe my luck. A female cop, falling right into my hands. Now if only you had red hair, wouldn't that just be perfect?"

I hear Ray inhale deeply while lifting my hair. Tina was not over exaggerating in the slightest when she told me Ray was a creep. When Ray's face reaches my ear he sighs and whispers, "Ready to join those other 14 girls?"

My heart and mind race in panic and then I say, "Ray, you do not have to do this."

He laughs and says, "Oh really now? Give me one good reason why I shouldn't."

My stomach twists itself in knots as I say, "I've turned my life around. My Mom died when I was 18 and I couldn't take it. I started doing drugs and I got so carried away that I overdosed and almost died. After that I knew I would not get another shot at life. I turned my own damn life around. I became a detective. Now I have a little girl and a fiancé. I made a better life for myself out of nothing. I had nothing and no one. Please Ray, don't let it be for nothing. I can't let it end like this."

When I finish my body is shaking with tears I won't let spill free. I can tell my story has caught Ray off guard but my emotions are too prevalent for the thought of trying to get Ray's gun to even cross my mind. Suddenly gunshots ring out and I realize a second too late the mistake I've made.
