---Laynie's POV---

I'm watching the news on TV when I hear someone enter my hospital room. I smile at the person, thinking that it's Sean, but am taken aback when I see a man pointing a gun at me. I'm about to press the call button on the bed when I realize that whoever would come into my room would then be in danger. I'm not willing to take any risks so I instead put my hands up in the air. The man smiles approvingly and says, "Good girl Laynie. Remember me?"

I shake my head even though I know that this is Pete, the guy whose job I got in the NCIS unit. I don't want to give him what he wants. This is already a delicate dance as is.

He rolls his eyes at me and says, "You should. You did steal my job right out from under me and now I'm following up on my promise of killing you. Do you remember me now?"

I sigh, knowing he won't stop until I say I remember him so I reply, "Yes Pete, I remember you."

He smirks and says, "Now I'm here to finish what I started. Those five gunshots should've been enough to kill you but you're lucky and somehow survived. It took a week for me to find your room and avoid the police, but here I am."

My eyes grow wide with fear at the reality of what he's just said so I take a deep breath and say, "Pete, you don't need to do this. You've already hurt me and left your scars. There's nothing left for you to do."

He shakes his head at me and moves his finger so it's resting overtop of the trigger. I close my eyes, brace myself for the pain to come, and thank god I'm in a hospital already, but I instead hear the gun clatter to the floor. I open my eyes and see Sean fighting Pete. Sean manages to knock him to the ground and as he's putting handcuffs on Pete he yells, "How dare you stalk my fiancée! I'll make damn sure you never see the world outside bars for it ever again!"

I sit there in a stunned silence while Sean hauls Pete away. He comes back into my room seconds later with a very concerned expression on his face and says, "Sweetie, are you alright?!"

I nod and say, "I'm alright, just startled. He didn't hurt me at all. But Sean, we're dating, not engaged."

He groans and says, "Shoot. I just ruined my own surprise."

My left hand flies to me mouth as Sean grabs my right hand and says, "Laynie, I know that we've only been together for six months but I love you with all my heart and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I want to call you mine for the rest of our lives and help you raise Camille. Laynie, will you marry me?"

I begin to cry as he pulls a thin gold ring with three small diamonds out of his coat pocket. I wipe the tears from my cheeks and whisper, "Sean, I'd love nothing more."

He smiles widely as he slides the ring onto my slim finger. We share a kiss and then I say, "It's perfect. Where'd you find it?"

"Your Dad gave it to me when I went to get his permission. He said that when they found out your Mom had cancer she really wanted to find an engagement ring for you, just in case she couldn't be there to pick one with her future son-in-law."

I smile and silently thank my Mom. I then smash my lips to Sean's. We're in the middle of our passion filled kiss when I hear a little girl's voice ask, "That Mama's room?"

Sean and I pull apart as soon as we hear Camille's soft little voice. I smile and then I hear Dad say, "That's right."

When Camille and Dad walk in she squeals at the sight of me and yells, "Mommy!"

I smile widely as she runs towards me. She tries to climb up on the bed all on her own but isn't quite big enough so turns to Sean instead and says, "Help up pease?"

He nods and as he's lifting her up she says, "Careful around Mommy. She's still very sore so we have to be gentle."

Camille nods as Sean sets her down. I open my arms and she scrambles into them. The pressure from her small body against my middle hurts a lot but I couldn't care less right now. This week apart from her has been excruciatingly painful. I kiss the top of her head and then say, "I missed you monkey."

We pull apart so I can look at her beautiful face and then she says, "I miss you too Mommy."

I smile and then she takes my left hand and sandwiches it in between her tiny hands like I sometimes do with her. We stay like that for a few moments and then she spots my ring. She points to it and says, "Mommy, what dat?"

I take a moment to think about how to explain this to a three year old in a way she'll understand and then say, "Its Mommy's new ring. Sean gave it to Mommy because it tells everyone that Mommy and Sean will be together forever."

She smiles widely and replies, "Really? Sean stay forever?"

I nod and say, "Yes Camille. It also means that he'll be your Daddy. Would you like that?"

She nods eagerly and says, "YES YES YES!!"

Sean can't suppress his smile as Camille scrambles across the bed to reach him and give him a huge hug. Dad smiles at the two of them and then turns to me and says, "I'm so proud of you Laynie. You've made a wonderful life for yourself."

I thank him and then he leaves. Sean and Camille then join me on the bed and I enjoy time with my new little family.

Hey guys! Thanks for being patient and for 20 800 reads! I'll put a picture of Laynie's engagement ring at the top.

I got my laptop issues all figured out but just in case I also have my stories on a USB key now so that if my laptop does act up again I won't lose them and can update. -Becca
