---Roman's POV---
I take a deep breath as I knock on Voight's front door. I hear footsteps on the other side of it and then the door opens. Hank looks somewhat taken aback to see me but recovers exceedingly fast and says, "Sean, what can I help you with?"
I take a deep breath and then say, "I was wondering if we could talk for a little bit?"
He nods and invites me in. He closes the door behind me and I rapidly remove my coat and shoes. I then follow him into the spacious living room. We take a seat across from each other, him in a chair and me on a couch, and then I say, "I came to talk to you about Laynie."
Hank shifts uncomfortably in his seat and then replies, "If this is about me keeping her at the hospital, I'm sorry but I'm not changing my mind. It is by far the safest place for her right now."
"I know that it's the safest place. I completely agree with you, but that's not the reason why I'm here." I take a deep breath and continue. "I'm here to ask for your permission to marry Laynie."
Hank sits there in a stunned silence so I say, "I know that we've only been together for six months but I simply can't imagine my life with anyone else but her. She's such an amazing person and I love her more than anything else."
I watch as a lone tear escapes from Hank's eye. He wipes it away just as quick as it appeared and then says, "Sean, you have my full approval. I can't imagine anyone better to love or look after Laynie for the rest of her life. I also can't think of anyone more suited to raise Camille with her. I'd be ecstatic if you married my daughter."
I heave a sigh of relief and then Hank gets up and exits the room. He returns a couple minutes later with something enclosed in his hand. He holds his hand out and opens it so I can see what's inside. I'm surprised to see a thin gold band with three small diamonds in the middle. He drops it into my hand and as I safely tuck it away in my pocket he says, "Camille and I went out and bought that for Laynie after she was diagnosed with cancer. We had hoped that Camille would make it through but she was insistent upon finding an engagement ring for Laynie just in case. She had always dreamed of picking a ring for Laynie with her future son-in-law, so this was the next best thing. I hope that you'll accept it."
I smile and say, "It's perfect. I'd be more than honoured to propose to Laynie with this ring. Thank you."
He nods and then I stay to visit with him for a while.
