Lock And Load (Chicago P.D.)

Chapter 25

Steve smiles at us as he walks up. He stops when he reaches us and sticks out his hand. He and Roman shake hands and then he says, "I'm Steve Mackenzie."

Roman nods and says, "Sean Roman."

Steve nods and says, "So you're Laynie's new boyfriend. I hope you're treating her better than I did. Admittedly, that wouldn't be very hard. I was a massive jerk."

I chuckle to myself at how humble Steve is being. I honestly didn't expect this in the slightest. Steve then turns to me and says, "How are things?"

I look over at Camille with Roman and say, "Great. My life is exactly where I want it right now."

He smiles and says, "I'm glad you left me to find that then."

I smile back at him and then he grabs Camille from Roman. He gives her a little tickle and then says, "How is Chicago boo?"

She laughs and says, "Really fun. I like it."

He smiles and says, "I'm glad you're here then."

Roman and I smile at each other and then we go and get Steve's bags. Once we have them we go out to my car and get all loaded up. When we arrive at the apartment I grab Camille while the boys grab a bag each. When we arrive upstairs and walk through the door I say, "I'm sorry that it's kind of small with all four of us here but it'll have to do."

"I'm just appreciative that you're letting me stay here. It saves me a lot of trouble."

I nod and then Camille takes Steve off to play. Once they're out of earshot Roman says, "I'm going to go back to my place for a few days if that's alright. I think you should all have some time as a family."

"Alright. It's probably a good idea. Besides, he knows I'm happy where I'm at. He won't try anything." I say while grabbing Roman's hand.

He nods and plants a soft kiss on my lips. When we pull apart he says, "Just call if you need anything."

I agree and go to join Camille and Steve.
