"Where did you get this?" He demanded again.

"A street peddler. He was old and bald." She looked at him in concern. She put a hand on his shoulder,

"Are you okay?"

"No. There were only two of these necklaces. One was for my mother and one was for my father. I thought, I thought he still had his." Suga murmured angrily. She could see the anger flaring in his eyes. He was tense and he was still holding the necklace tightly.

"My mom always wore hers. It came from her uncle. Uncle is a monk, I don't know where he is. No one did, that's why these were so special. Turns out dad just pawned it off to a random person for some cash. How much did you pay for it?" He asked suddenly.

"5 bucks." She murmured.

"Motherfucker! This is worth!" Suga turned away from her and kicked the fence.

"I'm sorry." She murmured, taking a step towards him. She had thought he would like it. She felt awful, she didn't know it would make him this mad. She hadn't meant it. She just wanted to make him happy, and thought he might like one, because it was like hers. She opened her mouth to tell him about what the peddler said. About her looking like his niece. But she didn't. She didn't understand why, she just didn't think it was a good idea. Right now, she just wanted to make him feel better. It was his birthday.

"Thank you, for finding it. I'm glad I know what my dad did." He whispered. He had calmed himself down in those few moments. His hand held the necklace limply.

"I didn't know that it would-" she began. He shook his head and held the necklace out to her and smiled weakly.

"Put it on for me?" He asked.

"Of course." She murmured. She grabbed the necklace and put it on for him. He smiled down at her and kissed the tip of her nose. She blushed, despite herself, and hugged him.

"Thank you. I love it. I was just upset my dad didn't see what I see in it." He sighed and buried his face in her hair. She pressed her face into his chest. She couldn't think of anywhere else she'd rather be.

His fingers trailed along her shoulder blades. He pushed her away and studied her.

"What?" She asked. He ran a finger along her collarbone. Then he trailed his fingers down her sides and his fingers bumped over her ribs.

"What?" She asked again. He leaned his forehead against hers.

"You need to eat. You need to sleep. You're too thin. It's not okay." He whispered. His breath blew against her face. The warm night air surrounded them and a breeze blew, rustling the trees around him. It was really a perfect scene. But in back there was always something ominous, floating around them.

"I'm fine." She insisted. He gripped her arms,

"No. No one is fine right now. But I need you to try."

"I am trying." She insisted. She didn't understand.

"You're trying to help me. You can help yourself you know." He kissed her nose quickly.

"I am. I'm just focusing on you right now." She shrugged.

"Don't. I have you here with me. That's enough." He whispered. Then he closed the space between them and kissed her. She smiled and he pushed her against the fence. She wrapped her legs around him and he sat her down on the railing. She trusted him completely.

"Do you trust me?" He murmured, though kisses.

"Of course I do." She mumbled, focused on kissing him.

"Then trust me when I say you need to eat." He chuckled.

"Trust me when I say I'll be fine. I have you. That's all I need." She whispered, he rested his hands on her hips, keeping her in place.

"Then I'll be here." He promised. She smiled and ran her fingers through his hair,

"I know you will."

They hopped on a bus back to the loft. She was tired and didn't want to walk. The bus lurched to a stop. She was playing with her necklace and started to stand. Suga had his arm around her shoulders. Suddenly he grabbed her neck and slammed her down on the floor of the bus. She gasped as the wind was knocked out of her. Suga fell down beside her and curled his body around hers.

"Stay down!" He screamed. There were a series of deafening pops. Gunshots. She felt shards of glass rain down on her and she resisted the choking urge to scream. Suga kept himself wrapped protectively around her. Then it all stopped. Everything was absolutely still. Suga began to sit up slowly. He grabbed a large shard of glass and crawled over her.

"Stay here. Do not move from this spot until I get back here." He ordered forcefully. She nodded, tears streaming from her eyes. She sat up slowly and watched Suga as he crawled out of the bus. She looked at the bus driver briefly. He was slumped in his seat and blood dripped from the cushion, pooling on the floor. Suga checked his pulse and moved on. She felt herself go pale. The driver was dead.

Happy birthday.
